In 2022, in dangerous night time conditions including strong currents, cold water, debris and limited visibility, SES volunteers Robert McNeice and Robert Seale entered floodwaters of the Gloucester River at Falkland while other members secured the riverbank. The duo successfully reached a stranded driver, and extricated him from the top of his vehicle that had been swept off the crossing and guided him safely back to shore.

Their actions demonstrated exceptional courage, skill and commitment to public safety in circumstances where serious injury or death to the victim or rescuers was a real risk.

Last night, for their actions the duo were awarded the NSW SES Commissioners Commendation for Courage.

Sid and Mark helped form our Unit when it started. Between them they have given more than 90 years of service to our town and region.

We congratulate them both on their 45 year clasps to their National Medals and thank them on behalf of everyone they have effected directly and indirectly for their dedicated service.

If you’ve ever felt that quiet pull to do something that truly matters — this might be it.

Joining the NSW State Emergency Service isn’t about being a hero. It’s about being willing.

Willing to learn.
Willing to train.
Willing to show up when your community needs you most.

From storms and floods to road crash rescue and community education, SES volunteers are everyday people who step forward in extraordinary moments. Teachers. Tradies. Parents. Students. Retirees. People just like you.

You don’t need experience — you’ll be trained and supported every step of the way. What matters most is commitment, teamwork, and a desire to serve something bigger than yourself.

Volunteering with the SES means:
• Gaining practical, real-world skills
• Building lifelong friendships
• Strengthening your leadership and resilience
• Making a genuine difference in your local community

Sometimes the call to serve is loud.
Sometimes it’s quiet.
But when the storm hits, you’ll be glad you answered it.

Join the SES. Because when it matters most, someone needs to show up. Join today at https://www.ses.nsw.gov.au/volunteer.

Over 400 incidents were reported to the NSW SES due to severe storms on Wednesday across the Central Coast, Hunter Coast, Hunter Valley and Mid-North Coast.

🦺 Crews are continuing to respond to fallen trees and significant roof and property damage.

⚡️ Over 12,000 properties are currently without power. Ausgrid are working to restore power to these areas. Assume all fallen powerlines are live and keep at least 8 metres away.

☔️ There is the potential for more storms this afternoon across the state. To stay up to date on information and warnings, download the Hazards Near Me app or visit the NSW SES website.

📱 If you require assistance in floods or storms, call the NSW SES on 132 500. In life threatening situations, call Triple Zero (000).

A lovely visit tonight from numerous NSW SES commanders.

Also visiting were the NSW SES Stroud Unit, local RFS teams and our families too - even a random NRMA guy turned up 🙂.

Well done to Dave King from the NSW SES Stroud Unit unit receiving his 5 year award.

Also lovely to hear tonight that Rob and Steve will continue to lead our local SES units for the foreseeable future as we continue to support the region.

Also news today that those who served during the major flood events that impacted communities across New South Wales between 2021 and 2023 will receive the NSW Premier’s Flood Emergency Citation.
