A fitting poem by Wagin's St John Manager, Jessica Forsythe.
In quiet hours when the world’s asleep,
You rise to answer calls that run deep.
From roadside dust to quiet hills,
You serve with heart when duty calls.
At 2am, beneath a rural sky,
No cameras rolling, no watchful eye.
Just you, the road, the open land,
A steady will, a helping hand.
You stand through storms, through grief and pain,
On solo runs, in sun or rain.
With values firm, you do not sway.
You Lead with Heart, come what may.
Support or frontline, field or phone,
No one here ever stands alone.
Your pride in place, your rural might,
Shines like stars in Wheatbelt night.
With fewer tools but fuller hearts,
You show us where true courage starts.
It’s not just service year by year.
It’s every choice to still be near.
You Walk the Talk, you Think Team too,
You Make it Better in all you do.
And every time you give your part,
You show us where compassion starts.
Not with loud words, but quiet grace,
To serve humanity, face to face.
To calm the storm, to ease the pain,
To bring back hope again and again.
Teams aren’t just who stand in line,
They’re every voice that dares to shine.
We each may walk a different way,
But still we serve, and still we stay.
So, here’s to you, each soul out there,
Who lifts with strength and serves with care.
Your legacy in this proud land
Is written not in stone, but in every hand.
You’ve held, each life you’ve soothed and saved,
In every pathway you have paved.
Wheatbelt South, your spirit’s flame
Will always burn in heart and name.
As Christmas settles on our Wheatbelt land,
With dusty roads and stars so grand,
We thank you for the year you’ve seen through,
For every call, and all you do.
You Lead with Heart, you Think Team strong,
You Walk the Talk the whole year long,
And with each act, in every weather,
You always strive to Make It Better.
May peace and rest find each of you near,
A Wheatbelt South Christmas blessing
for our volunteer community’s heroes this year.
