Wildlife in Nerang, Gold Coast, Australia

Wildlife in Nerang, Gold Coast, Australia A place for posting photos of wildlife that visited us daily where we lived on the Gold Coast. to promote the rich collection of wildlife in our area.

Since moving to Nerang in the Hinterland on the Gold Coast in Queensland Australia in 2003, my wife and I have been amazed by the amount of wildlife that we have on an almost daily basis. In 2007, I had a major heart attack which left me with ongoing health issues and prevented me from returning to work. As I recovered I began to assist my wife in her work as a Wild Care volunteer rescuing, rehab

bing, releasing, rehoming and even adopting some of the birds that couldn't released or rehomed. Around the same time I rediscovered an old hobby from my high school days, photography, and became an avid photographer of some of our visitors and wildlife elsewhere on the coast where we live. On this page I will be posting photos of some of the birdlife and other wildlife I have taken in our front yard and elsewhere on the Gold Coast and will also be highlighting how some of these photos are being used in a range of items such as T-shirts, caps, mugs, wall clocks, playing cards, cheese boards, throw pillows etc. These items can be viewed at a dedicated site using the following link:

Prints and other items based on my photos are now also available using this link: http://wildlife-in-oz.artistwebsites.com/

There is no doubt in my mind that this part of the world is a goldmine for bird watchers and wildlife photographers as you will see from photos on this page and hopefully, this page will encourage people from other parts of Australia and overseas to come and visit this part of Queensland. https://www.flickr.com/photos/paradisephotos/albums/72157659917363575

We went down to the Gold Coast Broadwater for lunch on this day which we duly shared with the local seagulls. Evelyn got a bunch of pics of some of the seagulls trying to get my lunch (see separate album). We even got to see an osprey in action dive bombing for lunch.

A daily activity for tourists is the feeding of the pelicans on the sand outside of the Charis Bros Seafood shop, we weren't disappointed on this day.

Wanted to play around with an old camera of mine with an even older lens using an adapter and see what I could come up with including shooting birds in flight and was pleasantly surprised - hadn't used this combination for over three years.

A bonus on the day was being there for the lunch time feeding of the local pelicans. We had some fun.

There was absolutely no shortage of corellas - short bills, long bills and short/long bill crosses - where we lived on the Gold Coast hinterland. Each day we would get plenty of these guys coming around to visit and loved it when they brought their young to visit like this little beauty - Jan 11, 2017.

A pale headed rosella was back again with its youngster cross which was now just about fully grown. You can see in this pic of the youngster there is some yellow in red head, in fact it is looking more and more like a female eastern rosella but we know this guy from March when it was coming with its pale headed parent - Jul 25, 2019.
