What makes a Tree kangaroo different from every other kangaroo? 🌳🦘

Lumholtz’s tree kangaroos are uniquely adapted for life in the rainforest canopy. Their specialised feet, powerful limbs, claws, strong skeletal structure, and long tail allow them to climb, balance and move through a world high above the forest floor.

Advanced imaging technology gives our veterinary team the opportunity to look beneath the surface, providing further insight into the unique anatomy that supports this extraordinary lifestyle. It also provides valuable information that supports the ongoing health assessments and veterinary care of our resident tree kangaroos, Mupee and Luke.

Beneath the surface lies a remarkable story of adaptation. 🩻🔬

🐢 Happy World Turtle Day! 🐢

Meet Mario, Dreamworld’s Mary River Turtle.

Known for having the longest tail of any Australian freshwater turtle, some males can grow tails nearly as long as their shells!

Found only in South East Queensland’s Mary River, these incredible turtles were once heavily collected for the pet trade during the 1960s and 70s, sold as “penny turtles” in pet stores. Scientists didn’t officially recognise them as their own species until 1994.

Today, habitat loss, invasive predators, and the impacts of the pet trade have placed the Mary River Turtle on the critically endangered list.

By learning about species like Mario and supporting conservation efforts, we can help protect these incredible animals for generations to come.
