A swimming pool can change a community.

In many remote Northern Territory communities, the local pool is the only safe place to swim. It's where children learn lifesaving skills, families come together, people stay active, and communities build stronger futures.

But too many of these essential facilities are ageing, underfunded and at risk.

Today, Royal Life Saving Northern Territory has released a new report calling for urgent investment to protect these vital community assets.

Key findings include:
• The Northern Territory has the highest drowning rate in Australia.
• Nearly half of remote pools are now more than 30 years old.
• Three remote pools have already closed, with several others operating under increasing pressure.
• Every $1 invested can deliver up to $25 in social and health benefits.

Remote swimming pools aren't a luxury -they're essential community infrastructure.

📋 Community feedback is being sought as part of investigations into potential childcare services in Goroke.

Council is investigating funding opportunities through the Australian Government’s Building Early Education Fund, which supports the building or expansion of early childhood education and care services.

The proposed project would expand the existing Goroke Kindergarten building to accommodate a future long day care service for children aged 0 to 5 years.

That’s a wrap on the 25/26 season!

A huge thank you to our amazing staff, local schools, lap swimmers, families, and everyone who walked through our gates this season. You’re what makes this place so special.

Country pools are where lifelong memories are made… just like the ones I remember as a kid 💙

We’re also incredibly grateful to West Wimmera Shire Council for recognising how important this pool is to our community and supporting another fantastic season.

Letting our swim community know that Sunday the 22nd of March will be our last day for the season.
We’ve still got ice creams, lollies and some chippies and drinks available. Look forward to seeing you there for a final swim ❤️

The toddler pool is currently closed as it limps across the finish line for this season! Constant leaking but then not able to drain 🙃
