Portable long service leave for workers in building and construction, contract cleaning, and community services.

Portable long service leave for workers in the building and construction industry has operated in New South Wales since 1975. The Long Service Corporation (LSC) administers portable long service leave schemes for industries where workers frequently move between employers. Over time, LSC’s role has expanded to support additional industries across the state. LSC currently administers portable long s

ervice leave schemes for workers in:

Building and construction
Contract cleaning (since 1 July 2011)
Community services (since 1 July 2025)

Before the introduction of these schemes, many workers were unable to access long service leave because they did not remain with the same employer for the required period. LSC’s schemes ensure eligible workers can accrue long service leave based on their service to their industry, regardless of changes in employment.

Employer and worker portals are now live for the Community Services Industry portable long service leave scheme.

We welcome the Government's decision to reduce the Community Services Industry portable long service leave scheme levy rate to 1.3% for the first financial year (1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026). This measure is intended to ease the initial financial impact on employers as the scheme is established.

The revised service return period for the Community Services Industry scheme is 29 April - 13 May 2026, with the initial levy due by 31 May 2026.
