We’ve updated 8 Codes of Practice to better support industry in managing health and safety risks. They are now in effect.

• Work on roofs (commercial and industrial buildings)
• Cutting, drilling and grinding concrete and masonry products
• Worker accommodation
• Work near overhead and underground electric lines
• Transport and delivery of cash and valuable goods
• Sawmilling industry
• Managing blood-borne virus risks in the workplace (hepatitis B, hepatitis C, HIV)
• Safe use and design of bulk storage silos and bins

If you are a person conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU), now is the time to review these updates and ensure your control measures remain effective.

Northwest Recycling Centre Pty Ltd has been fined $472,500 in the District Court of NSW as a result of a prosecution by SafeWork NSW.​

​The proceedings arose from a serious incident on 8 July 2022, when a worker was fatally injured while attempting to clear a blockage in a Van Gelder Green Waste Grinder from within the feed chute.​

Northwest Recycling Centre Pty Ltd plead guilty to an offence pursuant to section 32 of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (NSW) for failing to comply with its duty to workers under section 19(1) of the Act.​

Northwest Recycling Centre Pty Ltd has the right to appeal against their convictions and sentences.

Focus areas include falls from height, mobile plant and vehicle risks, hazardous substances (silica, asbestos, welding fumes) and psychosocial risks.

Side‑by‑side vehicle (SSV) safety saves lives.

✅ Buckle up every time
✅ Wear a helmet
✅ Close the doors and cab nets
✅ Never carry passengers in the cargo tray
✅ Make sure everyone is trained to operate a SSV safely
✅ Only carry children who meet both passenger height and weight requirements to ride safely

A $1,000 rebate is available to eligible farmers to improve SSV safety.

Acon Projects Pty Ltd and Adrian Conditsis have been convicted and fined $480,000 and $20,000 respectively in the District Court of NSW as a result of a prosecution by SafeWork NSW.​

These proceedings arose from an incident on 1 July 2021, when a worker sustained injuries after falling approximately 3 metres from a residential construction site at Carlton, New South Wales.​

Adrian Conditsis was the sole director of Acon Projects Pty Ltd, which was engaged as the principal contractor at the construction site.​

Acon Projects Pty Ltd plead guilty to an offence pursuant to section 31(1) of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 for exposing workers to a risk of death or serious injury, where it owed those workers a health and safety duty under section 19(1) of the Act.​

Adrian Conditsis plead guilty to an offence pursuant to sections 32/27(1) of the Act for failing to exercise due diligence to ensure that Acon Projects Pty Ltd complied with its health and safety duty under the Act.​

Acon Projects Pty Ltd and Adrian Conditsis have the right to appeal against their sentences.

What to report:
- Quad bike riders without helmets/roll bars
- Children under 16 on adult-sized quad bikes
- Side-by-side vehicle operators not wearing seatbelts
- Any unsafe or risky farming behaviour shown in media

Media influences how people view farm safety. When unsafe actions are shown as 'normal', they can lead to real‑life risks.

Goulburn Flight Training Centre Pty Ltd and director Attilio Giovanni Ferrara have been convicted and fined $100,000 and $150,000, respectively, in the District Court of NSW as a result of a prosecution by SafeWork NSW.​

The proceedings arose from an incident on 27 June 2021, when two people died in a skydiving incident.​
Goulburn Flight Training Centre Pty Ltd had plead not guilty to two offences pursuant to section 32 of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (the Act) for failing to comply with its health and safety duties to workers, and other persons, respectively under section 19 of the Act.​

Attilio Giovanni (John) Ferrara, the sole director of Goulburn Flight Training Centre, had plead not guilty to two offences pursuant to section 32 of the Act for failing to comply with his duty as an officer of the business under section 27 of the Act.​

The defendants were found guilty by the Court on each of the charges laid against them following a defended hearing.​

Goulburn Flight Training Centre Pty Ltd and Mr Ferrara have the right to appeal against their convictions and sentences.

Working near powerlines or underground services is dangerous. Mistakes can cause serious injuries, power outages and expensive damage.​

Our inspectors will be visiting construction sites across the state educating businesses and workers on planning, risk assessments and safe use of plant and equipment.​

On 26 October 2022 a worker suffered facial injuries after being struck by a ratchet when opening an animal feed bin, and another worker was placed at risk. George Weston Foods Limited were charged under sections 19(1)/32 and 19(2)/32 of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011. ​

On 8 April 2026 SafeWork NSW accepted an enforceable undertaking from George Weston Foods Limited. ​

Under the terms of the enforceable undertaking George Weston Foods Limited will:​
• Upgrade Outload Bin Slide Gates at the site to improve safety and reliability during operations​
• Coordinate and host an Industry Freight Supplier Safety Day, including the development and dissemination of a safety leaflet outlining risks associated with truck loading​
• Support the psychological wellbeing of the transport, warehouse and logistics sector and broader community, through an alliance with the Healthy Heads in Trucks & Sheds Foundation.​

The enforceable undertaking will achieve work health and safety benefits for George Weston Foods Limited, their industry and their community.​

SafeWork NSW will monitor George Weston Foods Limited to ensure the terms of the enforceable undertaking are delivered.​
