The NSW Health Tertiary Health Study Subsidy Program is helping support the next generation of nurses, midwives, doctors, paramedics and allied health professionals.

Eligible students commencing an approved health qualification in 2026 could receive up to $12,000 over three years to help with the costs of study while completing your degree.

Helping women feel informed, confident and supported through menopause is at the heart of Rayna Shimakage's work as a physiotherapist in the Central Coast Menopause Service.

“The Central Coast Menopause Service helps women maintain their physical health and wellbeing throughout menopause and beyond,” Rayna said.

“Menopause is a natural stage of life, but that doesn’t mean women should feel they have to always accept changes that are affecting their quality of life.

“If something doesn’t feel right, is affecting your day-to-day life or you are unsure whether what you are experiencing is related to menopause, it is worth seeking support and having a conversation with your GP.

“If your symptoms are severe or complex, ask your GP about a referral to the CCLHD Menopause Service, or self-refer by calling 1300 725 565.

“You don’t have to navigate these changes on your own, and there are people who can help you understand what is happening and explore the options available to you.”

Looking to learn more about dementia or find local support?

Join us during Dementia Action Week (21-27 September) for a free community expo bringing together local experts, support services and community organisations to support people living with dementia, their families and carers.

Hosted by the Central Coast Dementia Alliance with support from Central Coast Health, the expo is an opportunity to hear from expert speakers, access practical resources, learn about dementia care and connect with local services.

Attendees can also explore the new CCDA Dementia Services App, a simple way to find dementia services and support available across the Central Coast.

Free health and wellbeing checks and complimentary morning tea will be available.

Our Child and Family Health teams have been celebrating Book Week and sharing the joy of reading with babies and young children.

Reading together from an early age helps build language, communication and early literacy skills, while also creating special bonding moments.

If you have any questions about your child's growth, development or communication, talk to a child and family health nurse at your child's free health and development check. Regular checks are a great opportunity to discuss your child's development and get advice to support them as they grow.

You’ll find a list of recommended ages for health and development checks in your Blue Book – ranging from 1-4 weeks up to 4 years.

Carers have a place to rest, recharge and access support at Wyong Hospital in our dedicated Carer Support Unit.

The unit provides a welcoming space for anyone who is caring for a family member or friend and has been designed to meet the practical needs of carers while they are at the hospital.

It includes:

🔹 a comfortable lounge area with television 🛋️
🔹 a business centre with computers, printer and scanner 💻
🔹 a quiet room with a bed for rest and recovery 🔕
🔹 accessible shower and toilet facilities 🚿
🔹 a dedicated short-term drop-off parking space outside the unit 🅿

The Carer Support Unit is usually open Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm. Carers can use the space free of charge and no referral is required.

This Speech Pathology Week, we're celebrating the incredible speech pathologists working across Central Coast Health and the difference they make in the lives of our patients every day.

To mark the occasion, we spoke with Jess from our Paediatric Speech Pathology team about what the team loves most about their roles.

"We have the privilege of supporting children and families with communication, speech and language development as well as feeding and swallowing concerns," Jess said. "We help them build the skills they need to connect, learn and thrive."

This year's Speech Pathology Week theme is 'Communication Creates Possibility' a message that resonates strongly with the team.

When it comes to supporting children's communication development at home, Jess says one of the simplest and most effective things families can do is share books together.

"You don't have to read every single word on the page. Let your child take the lead and talk about what they can see and what interests them. By sharing books, children learn new words, new ideas and make new connections."

To help encourage early literacy and communication, the team has organised a children's book drive, running all week across our Gateway, Erina, Long Jetty and Lake Haven Community Health Centres, where children can choose a free book along with a Storyline Stars bookmark.

For Janelle, a Clinical Aged Care Assessor with Central Coast Health, kindness leaves a lasting impression.

Working in the community, Janelle visits older people in their homes to complete aged care assessments, taking the time to understand their needs, goals and the support they may require.

When Janelle learned she had received an Emblem of Kindness - recognising staff whose actions have made a meaningful difference to patients, families or colleagues - she was grateful.

"I felt surprised and proud to be honoured for work that is not only performed by me, but by my peers as well," said Janelle.

"Spending time with different clients each day, getting to know their needs, and completing assessments in their own homes where they and their families feel most comfortable is something I really enjoy."

Janelle says one of the most rewarding parts of her role is being part of a supportive team, whose kindness and teamwork help create positive experiences for clients.

"Clients I speak to often praise our staff at Central Coast Health. You can see how those moments of kindness stay with them, building trust and reassuring people they'll be met with the same kindness and empathy again and again."

Our Kincumber breastfeeding support drop-in clinic will be closed tomorrow (Tuesday 18 August).

If you'd like to attend a drop-in clinic tomorrow, please visit our clinics at Long Jetty or Wyong between 9am and 11.30am.

The Kincumber general drop-in clinic will be operate as normal on Wednesday 19 August from 9am-11:30am.

Our breastfeeding support clinics gives parents and carers access to the support of our Child and Family Health Nurses to learn about breastfeeding, seek help with common concerns and check their baby's weight.

No appointment is needed, but please allow enough time for our nurses to observe and support you on your feeding journey. Partners and support people are welcome to attend.
