OPERATIONAL UPDATE | NATTAI NP MISSING PERSON SEARCH

For the last several days, members of NSW SES - Goulburn Unit have been supporting NSW Police Force in the search for missing 18-year-old Lily Hooper, alongside multiple other NSW SES units and partner agencies.

Since the search commenced mid last week, our members have been attending in support of our Southern Highlands counterparts as well as specialists from the Bush Search and Rescue Unit, and members have been deployed again today to continue the search effort.

SES crews are out there working hard alongside multi-agency teams, searching extremely difficult terrain and covering challenging areas. Despite the conditions, the search continues, and there is still hope that Lily can be found and brought home safely.

To all the emergency service personnel and volunteers working tirelessly on the ground — thank you for your dedication, determination and unwavering commitment. Your efforts do not go unnoticed.

⚠️ Lily was last seen wearing a shirt and shorts, and her vehicle was located near the Bonnum Pic Walking Trail in the National Park.
Anyone who sees her, or who has information about her whereabouts, is urged to contact The Hume Police District or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

The Goulburn crews hit the road and took the boats to Lake Burley Griffin in the ACT for some flood boat training! 🚤💦

A great day on the water sharpening skills, building confidence, and getting plenty of time behind the wheel. Training like this keeps the team ready for whatever comes our way—plus it's always a good excuse to get out on the water! 👏🌊 also on a good note no one got hypothermia which is also a great start.

The Goulburn unit has demonstrated remarkable resilience over the past 2 days. Requested to support police rescue for land search for a missing person down near Windellama, over the 2 days we mobilized 12 SES vehicles and 33 members from the area. We worked in tandem with RFS in an extensive line search, navigating a considerable amount of difficult terrain with multiple items found. Leveraging helicopter, police dogs and other resources, we ultimately found the missing person, albeit with a heartbreaking outcome.
Upon returning to the Goulburn area, we received another request to assist an ambulance stuck in mud in Bigga, with a 🚁 on its way. Our crew didnt hesitate to support the ambulance service, even though they had been walking all day. Equipped with 4x4 gear, they successfully freed the vehicle and got it back on the road, allowing it to continue serving the community. We are proud to provide aid to anyone in need, regardless of the name Goulburn on the vehicle we will go where needed.

👏We would like to express our appreciation to the volunteers who generously gave up their time to support their community over the 2 days and their ongoing dedication.👏

We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident off Ballina Bar overnight.

Not only for the loss of life from Marine Rescue NSW but also the loss of life from the vessel they were responding to.

This is a reminder of what emergency services can face every time they answer a call for help, frequently in the most challenging and dangerous conditions.

We extend our sincere condolences to the families, friends and members of Marine Rescue NSW, as well as all those affected by this tragedy.

Our thoughts are with you all during this difficult time.💙💙

This weekend Goulburn got its adventure on with a boat course on Lake Burley Griffin where one of our members was learning the ropes. Meanwhile, another member was getting down and dirty in Kiama with a 4x4 course, getting stuck in the sand and self recovery. And, because why not, we even threw in some winching for good measure when we stumbled upon a hole that was just begging to be jumped into. All in all, it was a blast and a great learning experience.

We made a splash at Goulburn aquatic and leisure centre on Sunday, reenacting that famous Titanic scene where Jack and Rose stand on the bow of the ship - minus the sinking part, thankfully. We were actually training with the ark angles for our in water teams and anyone keen to become a flood rescue tech. We ran drills on how to safely pull injured people into the boat and what to do if the boat tips over. And, we squeezed in the swim test for some flood rescue rolls. Big ups to the public for showing interest and asking questions. And to the 12 members who aced the swim test, nice work!
