The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) is an emergency and rescue service dedicated to assisting the community. It is made up almost entirely of volunteers, with 228 units located throughout New South Wales. With over 10,000 volunteer members, who are easily identifiable by their distinctive orange overalls - we live work and serve our community. While our major responsibilities are for flood and storm operations, the SES also provides the majority of general rescue effort in the rural parts of the state. This includes road accident rescue, vertical rescue, bush search and rescue, evidence searches (both metropolitan and rural) and other forms of specialist rescue that may be required due to local threats. Volunteers in a number of isolated communities have been trained as Community First Responders by the Ambulance Service of New South Wales. The Service's trained rescuers also support the full-time emergency services during major disasters.

Communities in Northeastern NSW should monitor conditions as flash flooding and minor river rises are possible.

Widespread rainfall is forecast across the state today, before shifting to eastern areas, particularly the Mid North Coast and Northern Rivers, during the first half of Tuesday. Moderate rainfall totals of 40-70mm are likely, with locally heavy falls of 100-150mm possible with slow-moving thunderstorms.

⚠️ With the predicted rainfall, minor flooding is possible across Northeastern catchments including the Richmond, Wilsons, Orara, Bellinger and Nambucca Rivers and Coffs Creek.

NSW SES has issued four advice-level warnings for people in Bellingen, Coutts Crossing, Coffs Harbour, Thora and surrounds to stay informed.

🚘 Flash flooding can occur quickly and without much warning. Steer clear of floodwaters – if you come across a flooded road, turn around and find an alternative route.

📲 Download the Hazards Near Me app to stay across the latest information and warnings and set up a watch zone so you are notified with local warnings.

If you need assistance during storms of floods, call the NSW SES on 132 500. In a life-threatening emergency, always call triple zero (000).

💛💪 International Women’s Day 2026 - Celebrating the Women of NSW SES North Eastern Zone 💪💛

Today we proudly celebrate the incredible women who serve across the NSW SES North Eastern Zone.

From flood rescue technicians and chainsaw operators to incident controllers, radio operators, planners and team leaders- our women continue to lead, support and protect our communities when they need it most.

They train hard, step forward in challenging conditions, and bring skill, strength, compassion and leadership to every job.

Whether it’s in the middle of the night during a storm, coordinating complex operations, or mentoring the next generation of volunteers, their dedication does not go unnoticed.

To the women who wear the orange with pride- thank you for the countless hours you give, the barriers you break, and the example you set for others.

Today we celebrate you.

Happy International Women’s Day.
