The horses that built a nation.

The heavy horses that built our nation will be a feature of the New England Heritage Festival.

The Clydesdale, Percheron, Australian Draught, Shire and Gypsy Cob are all breeds of heavy horses.

The Clydesdale horse is a native breed of Scotland originating from the Lanarkshire area and was breed for heavy farm and industry work.

If you are a lover of horses and these gentle giants come along to one of the demonstrations of ploughing that is always a popular addition of the festival.

Seeking a scenic summer drive that takes you on an adventure through the upper ends of the Clarence Valley?

Head west from along the Gwydir Highway through the little locale of Jackadgery; here you'll meet the boldly beautiful Mann River! Continue until you spot a right hand turn onto Bridge Road! Cangai bridge is a great spot for a picnic, so pack yourself some lunch and enjoy a rest. It's a common misconception that you can also camp here, but unfortunately this is not a designated campsite.

Back in the car, take a left onto Hanging Rock Road where after a few kms you'll jump back across the Mann River at Broadwater Bridge (pictured). From here continue north through Coombadjha, and back to again by following along the Clarence Way through Copmanhurst!
