Parramatta Young Christian Workers (YCW)

Parramatta Young Christian Workers (YCW) A movement based in Parramatta run by, for and with young workers. In this way the words young, Christian and worker describe three aspects of our reality.

Parramatta YCW offers a range of services to help those in need and to empower young people and adults to engage in their community as leaders and volunteers to make a change. We are inclusive of all peoples from all backgrounds, uniting to promote change in our local community on a person-to-person level. Many people fit in to one of these definitions or perhaps all.

Finding your light. ✨ What an incredible day!!

Our 2026 YCS Mid-Year Retreat brought together students from St Luke’s Catholic College and St John the Apostle YCS Group from Canberra for a day of connection, reflection, celebration and leadership!!!

YCW and YCS celebrated the incredible social justice initiatives happening in our schools and communities, spent time reflecting on the realities facing young people through our See–Judge–Act method (if you know, you know), and learnt from one another through a leadership panel. We were also privileged to hear from our YCW National Mentor, Joe Magri, who shared his journey through YCW, and Deacon Jeff Hoods, who offered a powerful reflection on the impact and importance of the work YCW continues to do.

If you haven’t heard of YCS before, it’s the high school movement of YCW. While YCW works alongside young people in workplaces, universities and communities, YCS empowers high school students to identify the issues affecting their schools, reflect on them through faith using our See–Judge–Act method, and take action to create meaningful change. Every YCS group looks different because every school community has different needs 🫶🏽

A massive thank you to everyone who joined us, especially our past and current YCS leaders who shared their stories, mentored our younger members, and inspired the next generation of leaders. 💙

Think your school could use a YCS group? Or keen to start one at your high school? We’d love to support you. Send us a DM and let’s make it happen!

We’ll see you at the next one. ✨

In celebration of both pride month and refugee week this past week, we will be screening the movie ‘Flee’ for our next community movie night!!

Flee is an animated documentary that follows a q***r Afghani man’s journey to Denmark as a child refugee and his experience grappling with his own identity in a new country. It is a beautiful and vital story of love and resilience especially in our current context where anti-immigration rhetoric is proliferating and the rights of refugees and migrants are being increasingly threatened.

Don’t miss out on this special screening❤️❤️

Yesterday, Parramatta YCW’s leaders, volunteers, and workers met with Minister Sophie Cotsis (Minister for Industrial Relations of New South Wales) to discuss the challenges young people are currently facing in the workforce.

We spoke about the growing uncertainty many young people are currently facing around employment and career pathways, especially with the rise of automation and AI, job insecurity, and the pressure of choosing degrees and industries that may rapidly change in the future.

We also discussed the rising costs of education, placement poverty, and entering the workforce, particularly for international students living in Australia who are navigating high living costs alongside study and work pressures.

This was an incredible opportunity to share the lived experiences, fears, and hopes of young people directly with government.

Minister Cotsis has expressed interest in hosting a future roundtable to continue hearing from young people about the realities of entering the workforce and to explore ideas that could better support young workers and students.

Thank you to the Minister for taking the time to listen to our stories, concerns, and experiences, and for giving YCW the opportunity to showcase the incredible work of our volunteers and leaders.

If you’d like to be involved in the future roundtable, or want to share your own experiences about work, study, or the pressures young people are facing today, we would love to hear from you!! Shoot us a DM or email us at [email protected]

WOOOOO! 🌿✨

Massive thank you to all our incredible volunteers who cleaned up along Parramatta River yesterday! We spent the morning walking together, collecting rubbish, enjoying the fresh air and doing our little bit to care for our community and environment 💚

At YCW, we believe social justice can look like a lot of different things, and sometimes it’s as simple as showing up with good people and helping keep our shared spaces clean 🌏😌

If you wanna get involved in more volunteering initiatives, social events, and community action, hit us up! We’ve always got something happening 👀
