The Greenvale Fire Brigade was founded in 1941 and was formally known as the Broadmeadows Fire Brigade, serving the northern suburbs from Broadmeadows to Bulla and all the way down to Tullamarine. The station has moved a few times from, being stationed at Dunhelen on Mickleham Road, then across the road from the original station on Mickleham Road in Yuroke. In 1980 the first permanent station was
built and opened at 1255 Mickleham Road, along with the station being built. With the rapid increase in urban development the brigade’s status changed from Rural to Urban in the 1990’s. With turnouts increasing and more houses being built in the Greenvale area there was a need for a bigger facility closer to the heart of Greenvale. In 2002 the brigade became integrated with staff and volunteers working together to serve the community. After careful planning and a lot of hard work the new station was built and opened on the 19th of September 2004 at our current location on Barrymore Rd. In June of 2020 the Brigade became a full volunteer again after the Staff on station became FRV fire fighters. Whilst serving Greenvale the members have responded to numerous fires in Woodlands, Visy Board, SKM recycling, a plane crash on Gellibrand Hill, the Quarry, the Epping Tip, responded to Tullamarine Airport, North Western Hospital, Corpus Christi, BHP Conference Centre, Sherwood Receptions, Best Western Attwood, DEPI building in Attwood, and too many more to mention . Over the years members of Greenvale have fought some of Australia’s most infamous fires. We have had members at Ash Wednesday, Black Saturday, Mt Buller and Harrietville, Mt Hotham, Little River, the north and north east fires, Kal Kallo Fire, Mickleham Fire and the Black Summer just to name a few. With members also going on strike teams to Tasmania, Kangaroo Island, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, and the Blue Mountains, as well all around Victoria. With a 3.4C tanker and a FCV the Greenvale Fire Brigade serves Greenvale and surrounding areas with pride with both Staff and Volunteers.
