Can’t reach the detector? Battery flat? Alarm broken… or missing altogether? No problem, we’ve got you covered.

Simply contact your local Fire & Rescue NSW station, or fill out the online request form at www.fire.nsw.gov.au and our firefighters can:

✅ Test your smoke alarm
✅ Change the battery
✅ Replace faulty alarms
✅ Install a new alarm if needed

All free of charge.

Last year, nearly half the homes damaged or destroyed by fire in NSW did not have a working smoke alarm! Be smart and take part in Smoke Alarm Action Day, and test your smoke alarm works! A working smoke alarm is your best early warning sign of a fire, giving you and your loved ones the chance to get out, stay out, and call Triple Zero (000).

The Rural Fire Service has issued a major alert, with 'Catastrophic' fire danger forecast for the Lower Central West Plains on Wednesday 26 November 2025, due to forecast high temperatures, low humidities and strong winds, making conditions dangerous.

🔥 A total fire ban means no fires out in the open. A total fire ban helps
limit the potential of fires developing.

During a Total Fire Ban you CANNOT light, maintain or use a fire in the open, or to carry out any activity in the open that causes, or is likely to cause, a fire.

General purpose hot works (such as welding, grinding or gas cutting or any activity that produces a spark or flame) are not to be done in the open.

If you see Smoke Or Fire Dial 000 Immediately and Report The location

🚨 Catastrophic rating means conditions are the worst you can face.
If a fire starts, it will be fast, unpredictable, and extremely dangerous.

➡️ Do NOT wait for an emergency alert.
➡️ Leave early, well before a fire threatens.
➡️ Have a plan and act now.

What to do:
• Stay informed through official emergency channels
• Avoid bushland and grassland areas
• Keep your phone charged and alerts on
• Know where you will go if you need to leave immediately
• Help check in on neighbours, especially vulnerable people

Your safety is the priority.
Today is a day to be prepared, aware, and ready to act.
