OPERATIONAL OFFICER LEVEL 1(MIA) If you are interested in working for a highly regarded emergency service agency and supporting local communities, a role in our OpO Program could be for you! Operation Easter begins at midnight tonight and concludes at 11:59pm on Monday 6th April 2026.

The operation targets the causal factors of major collisions, being speeding, drink/drug driving, fatigue, occupant restraints and distractions (mobile phones). Double Demerits apply to these offences, there is no increase to any fines, only demerit points.

While there will be a significant Police presence on metro and rural roads around the state, we ask drivers to do their bit to make sure everyone gets to their destination safely. You can do this by.

• Planning your journey, if you are travelling around the state to visit family or friends, plan your breaks along the way and support local communities by getting out of the car and grabbing a coffee or a meal. Make sure your vehicle is up for the trip, have you checked your tyre pressure, a fully loaded vehicle will require more tyre pressure to safely handle an increase in vehicle weight.
• Be patient on our roads, your family won’t mind if you are a little late, there are much worse things than getting a speeding ticket and that is the conversation we don’t want to have with your family at Easter time if it all goes wrong.
• Have a Plan B ready to go if you are going to have a drink this Easter and stick to it. Paying for a taxi might not only be the safer option but cheaper than a day in court.

Look out for each other this Easter period, all we want this Easter Operation is for everyone in New South Wales to get to their destination safely.

🔥ARE YOU PLANNING ON LIGHTING A FIRE ON YOUR PROPERTY 🔥
🚨The BFDP ends on the 31 March 2026.

🚨Outside the BFDP (The period between 01 April and 31 September) You are still legally obliged to notify your neighbours and the NSW RFS at least 24 hours before you light up.

🚨Notifying us of your planned burn can help reduce unnecessary emergency calls.

🚨You can notify easily online by using the link below. Notifications to the NSW RFS can last up to 21 days, so if there is a possibility you are going to light a fire use the link below:
https://nswrfsprod.service-now.com/guardian_csp
🚨This website requires 24 hours’ notice.

⭕If you are planning to undertake a burn on your property, it is important you check the local weather conditions, the primary concern should always be safety, so never conduct a burn if conditions are not suitable.

⭕Stubble burning is an important tool for rice growers, but smoke can affect your local community. Responsible stubble management is the key to maintain your right to burn. The Ricegrowers Association (RGA) advises all farmers to implement best practice when burning stubble to avoid smoke impacts on nearby towns, neighbouring dwellings or roads.

☎️If you require any advice or assistance in conducting pile burns on your property, or help with notifications, please contact the MIA District office on 02 6966 7800.

Following the NO BURN period between Christmas and New Year, a significant increase in permit burns is expected across MIA District, commencing from 4pm today, Monday 05th January.

🛑 Remember that smoke from Agricultural burning can affect people differently. NSW Health reminds people that children, older adults and people with heart and lung conditions are most susceptible to the effects of air pollution.

🛑 If you have asthma or a lung condition, please reduce your outdoor activity. If you develop shortness of breath or coughing, take your reliever medication, or seek medical advice.

☎️ Please only call Triple Zero (000) if you see unattended fire. ☎️

🛑 Fire Permits are required for all open fires during the BFDP.
Apply for a permit and lodge your notification here:

www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify
or

🛑 IMPORTANT: Obtaining a fire permit is NOT a notification. Permit holders must complete the online notification once their permit has been issued.

A HARVEST SAFETY ALERT has been issued for Carrathool, Griffith, Hay, Leeton, Narrandera and Murrumbidgee LGA's for today Wednesday 10th December 2025.

The Rural Fire Service is requesting that harvest operators immediately stop and check local weather conditions before deciding whether it is safe to continue harvesting.

Those conducting harvesting are advised to do the follow:
🔥 Stop: Stop Harvesting Operations
🔥 Check: Check weather conditions, check the grain harvesting guide, and check your equipment.
🔥 Decide: Only resume operations if safe to do so and regularly reassess the conditions.

Under the current conditions, fires will start easily and spread rapidly. They have the potential to threaten life and property, as well as destroying millions of dollars’ worth of crop and equipment.

The RFS appreciates the cooperation of farmers on days of heightened fire danger. Stopping harvesting until weather conditions ease lowers the risk of fires breaking out and can prevent a great deal of damage.

For information on Harvest Safety Alerts and the Grain Harvesting Guide visit: www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/harvesting-guide

Due to deteriorating weather conditions today, Friday 5 December, landholders undertaking harvest operations in the Carrathool, Griffith, Hay, Leeton, Murrumbidgee and Narrrandera LGAs are advised to stop and check local weather conditions against the Grain Harvest Guide before deciding to continue.

🔥 There is a Total Fire Ban (TOBAN) in place for Friday 05 December 2025, in the MIA District.

This includes the LGA's of Carrathool, Griffith, Hay, Leeton Murrumbidgee and Narrandera.

⚠️A TOBAN means no fires out in the open.
⚠️A TOBAN helps limit the potential of fires developing.
⚠️During a TOBAN you cannot light, maintain or use a fire in the open, or to carry out any activity in the open that causes, or is likely to cause, a fire.
⚠️General purpose hot works (such as welding, grinding or gas cutting or any activity that produces a spark or flame) are not to be done in the open.
⚠️The NSW RFS strongly recommends you reconsider activities such as such using a tractor or slashing, to help reduce the chance of a fire starting on your property.
⚠️Permits are suspended on days of total fire ban. Permits may resume after the total fire ban is lifted, as long as the permit hasn't expired.

More information on TOBAN rules, visit the RFS website:
