We Are Not Powerless – Refugee Week Screening 🎬

Join Council and RAR Griffith (Rural Australians for Refugees) for a powerful and inspiring film this Refugee Week at Griffith Regional Theatre.

Ten years ago, Muzafar Ali and his wife Nagina escaped the Taliban in Afghanistan and found themselves living in Indonesia as refugees when Australia ‘stopped the boats’. Determined to do something, they started a small two room school, which soon became the hub of a community, and the most successful refugee-led initiative in the world.

We Are Not Powerless tells the story of what can happen when a community refuses to give in and work together for hope, love, and education.

The Griffith City Council offices will be closed on Monday, 8 June 2026 for the King’s Birthday public holiday and will re-open on Tuesday, 9 June 2026.

Waste collection and kerbside recycling will be collected as normal. The Tharbogang Waste Management Centre will be open as normal.

Road closure - Hebden Street Yoogali

Notice is hereby given under the Roads Act 1993, Section 122, of the temporary closing of Hebden Street between McCormack Road and Moura Street, Yoogali.

Hebden Street will be closed from 2 June to 3 July 2026 while contractors conduct road construction works for subdivision.

A full road closure and detour will be in place

The much-loved Festa Del Salsicce e Salami is moving to a new home in 2026, with the event set to be held at Yoogali Club Oval to cater for growing demand and future expansion.

Hosted by the Italian Museum Committee, the event has outgrown its original home at Griffith Pioneer Park Museum and will now be held at the Yoogali Club Oval on Sunday, 30 August 2026.

Griffith Mayor, Councillor Doug Curran said Council supported the move and recognised the festival’s growing popularity.

Italian Museum Committee President Rina Mercuri said the event had simply outgrown the space at Griffith Pioneer Park Museum.

“While Pioneer Park Museum has played an important role in the festival’s history, every year tickets sell out well in advance and we have a waiting list,” Mrs Mercuri said.
