This past week, we had young Braxton from a Coastal Residental area South of Perth, dress up as a Volunteer Fire & Rescue for Book Week at his School. He wore his uniform with pride and his Mum shared some photos of the day. Braxton, you look amazing and its awesome to see the young and upper coming Volunteer Fire and Rescue Fire Fighters. 2026 VFRSAWA Youth Scholarship has been awarded to Tayla-Marie Kempton from Mandurah VFRS. This scholarship is awarded to one ot our Brigade members under the age of 25, and covers flights, accommodation and ticket to AFAC 2026. Congratulations Tayla-Marie!

Congratulations to Matthew Stoltenbarg from Eaton Australind who has been successful in being elected to the position of Executive Member VFRSAWA South West Zone.

Matt brings many years of operational experience in the emergency services space as well as many years as captain of Eaton-Australind VFRS. Matthew was also part of the great team that worked on the Volvo Pump PAT and was instrumental in being a voice in the provision of such a brilliant appliance.

The VFRSAWA is delighted to share that the 2026 VFRSAWA youth scholarship has been awarded to Tayla-Marie Kempton from Mandurah VFRS.

The youth scholarship is awarded to one ot our Brigade members under the age of 25, and covers flights, accommodation and ticket to AFAC 2026.

We know Tayla will bring passion, enthusiasm and eagerness to learn as she gets to hear and learn from some great leaders in emergency services as she attends AFAC 2026.

Further to the announcement regarding the passing of our Life Member, Geoff Landwehr AFSM, I have been advised by Geoff's family that his funeral will be held on:

🕙 10:00 am (1000 hrs)
📍 St Francis Xavier Church
279 Forrest Road, Armadale WA 6112

At the family's request, brigade members are asked to attend in full dress uniform and form a Guard of Honour at the conclusion of the service.

This is an opportunity for us to honour Geoff's extraordinary 71 years of service and pay our respects to a man who dedicated so much to the Volunteer Fire & Rescue Service and our Brigade.

If you are able to attend, your presence would be greatly appreciated.

It is with great sadness that the vfrsawa wishes to inform our members of the passing of VFRSAWA Life Member, Armadale VFRS Life Member and Volunteer Fire fighter for over 70 years, Geoff Landwehr AFSM.

Geoff will be remembered for his dedication, compassion and truly being one of life's absolute gentlemen. His legacy to firefihhting here in WA spans generations with two of his children John and Kevin both starting as volunteers and both now serving long and respected careers in thr CFRS.

Geoff was so passionate about caring for others, often seen at thr competition track collecting cans so he could raise funds for medical research charities.

Thankyou Geoff for the life of service you lived and how your words, actions and care made our world a better place.

Please join us in passing on our love and sympathy to all of Geoff's family.

The Junior State Championships will be help in Mandurah at Bortolo Park this November. Looking forward to see familiar faces and new faces. Wishing all our sub-junior and junior competitors the very best in their training in the lead up to the championships. Even if you aren't competing, come on down to Manduarah to support our next generation of Fire Fighters as they show us what they've got!

The VFRS Association would like to give a big welcome to our new Competition Coordinator, Kaley McDonnell, who will be taking over Caitlin's position. As we welcome in Kaley, we also wish to say a huge thank you to Caitlin for all she has done with her time as Competition Coordinator and also her time at the Association and how much she is appreciated. We wish Caitlin all the best for her next chapter, and welcome Kaley to the team as we start getting ready for the Junior State Championships!
