What a fabulous Spring it’s turned into, new very late twins born a few days ago to no 22 East Freisan Border Leicester ewe, I’ve almost caught up with weeding all the garden beds, Hans is well into the hedging of our multitude of hedges. We had Simon with his fabulous mulcher grabber tidy up an overgrown area behind the driveway hedges and happily await his return to continue same. We have about a two acre almost impenetrable forest at the front of the property and we would like to make it more useful and fence it off too…tbcontinued….

Thank you to Andrew Brown from the Birdwood Veterinary Clinic for coming out so promptly yesterday and maticulously treating our pet cow Rita who recently calved but is having mastitis issues. We will continue with the various medication and get her appetite back. Jerseys wernt meant to feed just one little calf and my hand is too sore to milk her like I’ve done before on her previous calving’s

At last Rita has delivered unassisted 9 days after the Vet said 24-48 hours…I am so pleased it’s healthy but it’s a boy so the plan to keep it as a companion for her is unlikely . Now I’ve got to make sure it’s drinking all four so that massive udder is reduced…

Our Tenterfield Issy loves her lamb friends. She is very gentle with them and would love to play chase but that’s not on the agenda. But they don’t know that and love breaking the rules!

It’s been two days since this exhausted ewe went thru four hours or more hard labour. We pulled both lambs eventually . Lilly the alpaca was very maternal with them and watched keenly. Today the lambs are feeding well and the ewe is much happier. Bad farming practice letting them lamb late summer when there’s no green pick to be had. Sheep nuts and Lucerne chaff twice a day $$

Not sure what was wrong with no 23 , either twin lamb disease , toxemia or maybe ate something that disagreed with her. 3 doses of Flopak by needle and several oral doses of Ketol seemed to have helped . Plus lots of crushed oats lucern chaff and biscuit and sheep and lamb nuts and soaked lupins to make up for no green pick in the paddock. Bad timing putting the ram in with the ewes in late September. No 18 is enjoying the same food in the maternity ward.time wasters, I’ve got my chair and Sam Neil’s book is fabulous a great read ..I’m a real fan now. Plus my dear clever son Chris fixed my Apple Watch that suddenly spat the dummy. Win win
