In Memory of Liam Mac Cormaic

The staff and volunteers at Gympie Regional Gallery are saddened to share the recent passing of Liam Mac Cormaic in early August.

Liam was a dedicated Gallery community member, having held the role of Treasurer for the Friends of the Gallery for over 4 years and Gallery volunteer for over 14 years. Since stepping back from formal volunteering in 2020, Liam has been a familiar, friendly face who visited the Gallery almost daily over the last five years. His generosity, kindness, and commitment to our Gallery community touched the lives of many, and he will be deeply missed.

Please join us at Surface Hill Café for a coffee to remember Liam.

This informal gathering is an opportunity for friends, volunteers, staff, and community members to come together, share memories, and honour Liam's lasting legacy.

For those that are interested, please join Gallery staff in a walk to honour him, tracing Liam's regular walking path back to the Gallery at 10am.

🌸 Final days to view 'The Wildflower Letters' by Jasmine Veronique. Her paintings explore wildness through local wildflowers and flora-scapes, grounded in the Wallum landscape of Sunshine Coast, Noosa and Cooloola Regions.

This diverse exhibition features work by 32 members of Australian Walking Artists Inc. (AWA), an Australia-wide network of artists united through the intersection of art and walking.

🤔 Wondering what can inspire art?

Enjoy a sneak peak behind the process for Jasmine Veronique in her current exhibition 'The Wildflower Letters'.

Jasmine came across this planned burn by chance while walking the high dunes of Marcus Beach along the Noosa coastline. Watching the smoke drift through the heath struck Jasmine and inspired one of the feature works in the exhibition, as well as a broader exploration of wildflowers and regrowth.

🌸 Check out these new beauties in the Gallery shop

Making its debut release at the Gallery, this ceramic collection features Jasmine Veronique's native-inspired floral designs across a range of handmade bowls, plates, platters and cups.

Each piece is carefully crafted in collaboration with Kim Wallace Ceramics, creating functional artworks that celebrate the beauty of the Australian landscape.

🌏 From Gympie to Ireland!

Did you know local Gympie artists and their artworks have just been shared with audiences in Ireland?

Following the Gympie Regional Gallery exhibition '22.96 | receding' in 2023, local artists Miriam Innes, Joolie Gibbs and Leeroy Todd have continued their reflective exploration of flood stories on an international stage. Their new exhibition, '22.96 | Overflow', was presented through July and August this year in County Mayo on Ireland's west coast.

💧 The project connected two communities shaped by water, sharing lived experiences of flooding through artworks, community conversations, workshops and artist residencies at Ballina Arts Centre.

We're incredibly proud to see local artists taking the stories of our region to an international audience and creating meaningful connections across the globe.

The insights and experiences gathered in Ireland will help shape the final chapter of the project, '22.96 | Reflective', coming to Gympie Regional Gallery in February 2027, marking five years since the 2022 flood event.

Artist Joolie Gibbs reflected:
"The experience of exhibiting in Ireland (and my first visit) was life and art practice enhancing. We both tried to glean as much as possible in the given time and space to assist us in the return exhibition. I continued with my interest in invasive species and their contribution to flood events, as I did for the first exhibition, but this time from an Irish perspective. What a fun time with many thanks to Miriam for her vision."

👏 Congratulations to Miriam, Joolie and Leeroy on this remarkable achievement.
