The Goomeri Pumpkin Festival has done it again ๐ŸŽƒ

As the festival celebrated its 30th year, it was wonderful to see so many people come together and join in the festivities.

A huge congratulations to the organisers, volunteers, local businesses and community members who helped make the event such a success, and thank you to everyone who attended and joined in the fun.

Council was proud to sponsor the event, which brought people together, supported local businesses and showcased the unique character of our region to visitors from near and far.

The festival team has now shared their photo gallery. Take a look and relive the fun ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡

Our Disaster Management, Libraries, and Community Development teams attended the Doing It Tough event today.

It was an excellent opportunity to share valuable information and connect with community members, highlighting how Council can support and assist them.

The event was made possible through the support of a $5,000 grant from Council's Community Grants Program.

The program provides funding to not-for-profit community organisations, helping them deliver valuable initiatives that strengthen community wellbeing and support residents across the region ๐Ÿค

Did you know Council is responsible for mowing and maintaining more than 4,083 hectares of parkland, which is equivalent to more than 6,000 rugby league playing fields? ๐Ÿšœ๐ŸŒฑ

Every day our crews are out and about across the Gympie Region working hard to look after our open spaces and natural areas, which is a big part of our regionโ€™s identity and natural beauty.

Our annual program is designed to keep pace with growing rates, with service levels typically doubling during the wet months.

After it rains, itโ€™s not always possible to get into wet areas straight away, so we keep an eye on the schedule and move around based on conditions.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Notice a public area that needs attention? Report it to Council by phoning 1300 307 800 or online via our website: https://bit.ly/3jQQvBR

Despite nine disaster events since 2022, Council crews continue working to restore safe access and keep communities connected across the region ๐ŸŒฉ๏ธ๐Ÿ›ฃ๏ธ

Since the March 2026 flood event, where teams responded to more than 1,000 impacted locations, crews have already completed:

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Emergency grading works at 160 sites
๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Pothole patching at more than 470 locations
๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Drainage repairs at 150 locations
๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Crossing repairs at more than 55 locations

This is in addition to Councilโ€™s ongoing roads maintenance program.

While recovery work continues, Council remains committed to delivering safe, reliable and resilient roads, with $10.49 million invested into disaster recovery works during the 2025/26 financial year.

Thank you to the community for your patience and support as crews continue delivering this important recovery work across the region ๐Ÿ‘

Reminder: Council will be undertaking scheduled annual tree maintenance from Smithfield Street to Fiveways Roundabout in Gympie next Sunday 7 June ๐ŸŒณ

Things to know ๐Ÿ‘‡

Standard pruning maintenance on all trees is required to address tree structure, size and to reduce overhang on nearby buildings.

In accordance with the Five-Year Maintenance Program for Mary Street, and with an aim to continue to uphold the aesthetics of the street, the three trees identified for removal will be replaced with more suitable species in the coming months.

Pedestrians will still be able to access both streets, however, road closures will occur from 7am until 4pm. Detours will be in place.

Thanks to community reports, nearly 11 cubic metres of illegally dumped waste has been removed over the past two months, with offenders issued more than $13,000 in fines ๐Ÿ‘โ™ป๏ธ

These results follow Councilโ€™s recent โ€˜Dish the Dirtโ€™ campaign, which focused on raising awareness of the impacts of dumping and encouraging residents to report incidents. This helps Council respond faster and hold offenders accountable.

Illegal dumping impacts our bushland, waterways and public spaces, while also placing an unnecessary cost on ratepayers. This is why Council will continue working with the community to help reduce it across the region.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Learn more about illegal dumping and how to report it here: gympie.qld.gov.au/Illegal-Dumping

Thank you to everyone helping protect and care for our region ๐Ÿ’š
