Nice work Hinchinbrook Shire Council. You may have noticed the upside down icecream cone looking devices in a few spots around the district - these are water level sensors.
You can see the levels on Council's disaster dashboard - be sure to bookmark that page, and follow Hinchinbrook Disaster Information

🚨 We have expanded our Hinchinbrook Disaster Dashboard with new trial road water level sensors to give our community clearer, real-time information during severe weather events.
🔵 Blue measuring gauge symbols on the Dashboard show where live data is available. By clicking on these symbols, you can now view road water depths at key locations across the Shire.
🌧️ These improvements help you better understand local road flood risks and travel accessibility during floods or heavy rainfall.
📊 If the trial is successful, we will consider expanding sensors to more frequently impacted roads across the Shire.
🏠 You can also use the Flood Awareness (Alert) tool to check flood history and potential inundation levels for your own property. This can help you make informed decisions — such as when to self-evacuate or when action is needed to protect your property, like sandbagging.
