The warmth and kindness of our community was on full display across this election campaign. Democracy is a privilege which many in the world are no afforded, so I’m grateful to have been part of it.

Thank you to everyone who supported me, voted for me, or simply stopped for a chat along the way. I hope that by running, I was able to elevate ideas around algal bloom recovery, dust mitigation, the value of green open spaces and mental health that deserve to be heard.

I gave it everything I had and reconnecting with so many of you has been the greatest joy of this experience. I’m not going anywhere, this community is my home and my life, you mean everything to me and I’ll keep showing up for you in one way or another.

Thank you.

This one feels extra special. A vote for my community, a vote to get things done, to give back to a community that’s given me so much. I’d be honoured to have your vote too. Vote 1, David Speirs.

Mental health is an issue we can’t ignore.

Too many in our community are struggling in silence, and too many families are feeling the impact.

We need stronger awareness, better support and spaces where men feel safe to talk and seek help.

Check out my ideas to support better mental health services in our community: davidspeirs.com.au/priorities

Politics should be about service, not perks.

That’s why I’m pledging to return 20% of my parliamentary salary directly back into the community to support local projects, initiatives and organisations that make a real difference.

Our community should always come first.

I don’t believe taxpayers should pay for politicians’ overseas trips.

That’s why I’m pledging no overseas junkets.
If work requires travel overseas, I’ll pay my own way.

Standing at the booths this week has been incredible, reconnecting with our community and being reminded why I want to continue this work.

I have had important discussions over the past few days: from my plans for Glenthorne National Park to the ABC Four Corners report on the government’s response to the algal bloom. There is so much work to do.

I’d be honoured to represent our community again, delivering on projects, keeping promises and continuing to advocate for this incredible part of our state.

Early voting remains open this Thursday (8.00 am - 8.00 pm) and Friday (8.00 am - 6.00 pm). You can visit one of the two early voting centres listed below, or any of the other booths on election day, Saturday 21 March . And don’t forget, vote 1 David Speirs!

A sea pool would give our community a safe and accessible place to swim, connect and enjoy our beautiful coastline.

It’s about creating a space that locals of all ages can enjoy for generations to come.

I’m committed to advocating for this vision for our coast.

Has the desalination plant played a role in the algal bloom disaster?

This is a serious environmental question and one that our government is either ignoring or wilfully covering up.

If elected, I will move for a parliamentary inquiry so we can properly investigate the impact that desalination plants have on our marine environment.

A light must be shone on this grave situation.

Our coastline is one of our community’s greatest assets, and it deserves better protection.

The ongoing algal bloom issue highlights the need for stronger monitoring, accountability and action.

I’ll continue advocating for solutions that protect our marine environment for the long term.
