Do you know these facts about Blue Tongue Lizards?

🦎There are 6 subspecies of Blue Tongue Lizards in Australia! Plus another 6 that are found in Indonesia. The Australian subspecies include Blotched, Centralian, Eastern, Northern, Pygmy & Western.

🦎 When a Blue Tongue feels extremely threatened (and their tongue hasn't scared away potential predators) they will drop their tails as a means to escape. Don't worry though, they will slowly grow it back.

🦎Blue Tongues will commonly eat snails and slugs. This means they are at risk in our gardens if you use pesticide. Certain companies use ingredients that are deemed "safe" in case a lizard eats the bait or the snails.

While our Lizard pit is currently under maintenance to prepare for summer, we have a range of other reptiles on display to say hello to!!

Sun Conure Free Flight Training is in full swing!! 🦜

These training sessions are great for mental stimulation and a way visitors to learn about this amazing species.

Time to learn about Tawny Frogmouths!!

🪶Many people confuse this species for owls but they are in fact a type of bird. Their most closest relative is a nightjar. In comparison to owls, their feet are weaker and their talons aren't curved.

🪶They are found throughout all of Australia, mainly on the East Coast. Their habitats include heathlands, forests and urban areas.

🪶Their breeding season is between August-Decembers. Pairs that live in more arid environments are also more likely to breed after heavy rain.

Have you learnt about Scarlet Macaws before?

🦜Their strong beaks are designed to break open the hardest nuts and seeds. Nuts like walnuts are no struggle for these guys.

🦜They are found in humid tropical rainforests and river edges in Central & South America.

🦜 These birds are known as monogamous, meaning they mate for life. These lifelong pairs breed every 1-2 years, laying 2-4 eggs each clutch.
