Condolences to the Killen family. We are also thinking of our friends at Grose Wold Rural Fire Brigade.

It is with the deepest regret and sadness that the family of Sean Killen has asked us to pass on that Sean has passed away on Wednesday 20th May from his illness.

We would like to pass on our deepest sympathies to the Killen family.

Sean and his family have been long-term members of Grose Wold Brigade and is well respected in the community. Sean was the captain of Grose Wold Brigade more than once and was the driving force in building the station to what it is today from a single bay shed and has left a legacy that will be hard to follow.

Sean will be missed by many people however please give family space and time to come to terms and deal with Sean’s loss.

Funeral arrangements are as follows

174A Grose Wold Rd, Grose Wold

As we move into the colder months, fire agencies often see an increase in house fires as residents use their fireplaces and heaters to stay warm. With temperatures dropping and possible snow forecast across parts of the state in the coming days, it’s important you know how to stay safe.

Remember, you won’t smell smoke while you’re asleep, so make sure your bleeping smoke alarms are working. A working smoke alarm can save your life and give you and your family valuable time to escape a burning home.

Yesterday we had two crews assist with the Burralow Creek HR - this smoke has settled in our area overnight.

Please don't be alarmed if you wake to a smell of smoke outside. This will hopefully clear today.

Notification of a Planned Hazard Reduction – Bowen Mountain (Sunday 3rd of May 2026)

Our colleagues at NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), with support from the NSWRFS, plan to take advantage of favourable conditions to conduct a planned hazard reduction burn from Sunday in the Bowen Mountain area.

Due to the size and complexity of the burn, operations may continue through to Tuesday the 5th of May (up to three days), depending on weather and conditions.

This burn is an important part of reducing risk and helping protect nearby communities ahead of the fire season and we appreciate the community’s support during this period.

What to expect:

▪️ Smoke in nearby areas, including periods of heavier smoke over Sunday and Monday
▪️ Firefighters, fire trucks and aircraft in the area

How you can help 🗣
▪️ Only report unattended fires to 000
▪️ If you’re sensitive to smoke, keep doors and windows closed (and bring pets inside if needed)
▪️ If you’re in the area or travelling on Bowen Mountain Road, please drive to the conditions and follow any directions from firefighters

We’ll provide updates if conditions change.
