Good morning! A bit of a long post, but hopefully a happy and meaningful one for our community.
Thanks to the generosity and help of local businesses, volunteers and community members as well as the Mitcham council, this Sunday’s working bee will see our volunteers replace and replant the 22 trees that were vandalised earlier this year.
The trees that were hacked down will be carefully removed from their current position on Saturday afternoon and adopted by members of our community who have contacted us in the last 6 months and requested to rehome them in exchange for a small donation towards the parks maintenance efforts.
As we prepare for Sunday’s replanting, we’d like to take a moment to thank and acknowledge the incredible generosity of individuals and local businesses who have helped make this possible.
James from Adelaide Tree Farm and Sam Luke from Balhannah Nursery who generously offered to replace the trees that were cut down, an incredibly kind gesture that set this whole project in motion.
Luke Turner from Eco civil landscaping who generously shared his time, advice and expertise throughout the planning process. Peats Soil & organic landscaping who delivered yesterday 14 tonnes of organic soil for the replanting. The Mitcham Council for supplying the mulch that will help give our new trees the best possible start.
What began as a heartbreaking day for our park has become a wonderful example of community spirit, generosity and people coming together to care for something they truly value.
Please note:
1 - on Saturday please avoid the Avenue of trees area which will be closed off for the planting prep work.
2- if you would like to help on Sunday, our working bee begins at 9.30 and we would appreciate a few extra hands.
Once again, thank you to all for making Sunday's replanting possible. Means the world to us. Any questions please send us a message!
