What were you up to Monday night?

Your Heidelberg SES Volunteers were training. Members practised Domestic Rescue skills, casualty rescue and water diversion.

The more we train and hone our skills, the better we are able to help our community in times of need.

First came the construction and the next week came the deluge and landslide. Heidelberg member training this week included seeing the impact of landslip and deluge on the constructions created in the previous week. There was loss and damage through considerable flooding and inundation.

Congratulations to Annarella, one of our newly minted chainsaw operators on attending her first cutting task today 21st September at the rear of Bundoora Park.

Despite the rough winds, a team from Heidelberg Unit were privileged to attend Bundoora Park on Sunday, supporting our Indian community for Ganesh Chaturthi.
We would like to thank community members for their support and much appreciated donation.

The winds struck, and Heidelberg crews attended, saws at the ready. With trees and buildings feeling the effects of the weather, your volunteers were kept busy. At 1 pm, the Bell St and Waterdale Rd intersection was hit with a traffic disruption when a tree branch brought down a power line. Two other task requests later, a large limb on one of the beautiful gums at the front of the Darebin City Council Preston Town Hall also succumbed. One of our crews spent considerable time ensuring the area was safe. If you require assistance, please call Victoria State Emergency Service on 132 500. At Heidelberg Unit, there is always the opportunity to learn new skills and to gain a better understanding of the resources we have to make our temporary repairs better.
Victoria State Emergency Service volunteers train constantly, they make themselves available at all hours throughout the year to assist our communities on Yarra City Council, Banyule City Council and Darebin City Council areas.
We are grateful to the support from Community Bank Clifton Hill-North Fitzroy and Community Bank East Ivanhoe and Heidelberg for their continuing support.

Sometimes the smaller the better adds to the learning.
Heidelberg members were challenged on Monday night to build a storm proof dwelling in an hour. The results will get put to the test soon.

Thanks to Banyule Council for supporting the Heidelberg SES with an Equipment Grant for critical IT equipment.

Funds from the Community Grant were used to purchase new iPads and laptops to improve our operational readiness.
