Picky eaters? That might be an understatement 🐨🌿
Despite there being more than 900 species of eucalyptus in Australia, Koala only eat around 40–60 of them. Even more surprisingly, individual koalas usually stick to a small selection of trees within their home range, often favouring just 1–3 preferred species.
Their choices aren’t random either. Koalas carefully select leaves based on nutrient content, moisture levels, and natural toxins found within the eucalyptus.
So while it might look like they’ll munch on any gum leaf they can find… koalas are actually highly selective diners. 🌿
