MULTI-STORY BUILDINGS: Do you know what to do in the event of a fire?

Fires in multi-storey buildings happen every year. The good news? Your unit is designed to protect you - but knowing what to do is critical.

🚨 If there’s a fire:
• Act immediately – don’t wait or investigate
• Get out, stay out, call 000
• Use fire stairs – NEVER lifts
• Head to your pre-planned meeting place

⛔ Don’t:
• Go back inside for anything
• Waste time collecting valuables

🚪 If you can’t escape:
• Close doors and windows to keep smoke out
• Call 000 and give your unit number
• Follow instructions from firefighters

CHARGING DEVICES: Stay safe with these simple tips

Power tools, e-bikes and e-scooters can be dangerous if charged incorrectly.

🔥 Charge smart:
• Install smoke/heat alarms where batteries are charged
• Charge large batteries in garages or sheds, not living areas
• Never charge while sleeping or when you’re not home
• Unplug once fully charged

🔌 Use the right gear:
• Only use the original or approved charger
• Look for the Australian compliance mark

🏠 Charge safely:
• Use hard, non-flammable surfaces (no beds, lounges or carpet)
• Keep exits clear – don’t charge near doors or pathways

⚠️ Check your battery:
• Don’t use if it’s swollen, leaking, overheating or damaged

👨‍🚒 Visit our Open Day this Saturday, 9 May 2026 to get expert advice and learn how to charge lithium batteries safely.

INCIDENT UPDATE: Bush Fire

At 1.30 pm on Saturday, 2 May 2026, firefighters responded to a bush fire in bushland off Walker Street in Helensburgh.

Crews located a hangout area behind the Helensburgh Library where a lounge had been deliberately set alight.

Helensburgh Volunteer Rural Fire Brigade assisted by using water‑filled knapsacks to safely access the area and fully extinguish the smouldering fire.

A number of young people were observed nearby, some riding e‑bikes and others moving through the surrounding bushland.

While no injuries were reported, incidents like this present serious risks to the safety of young people, emergency responders, and the wider community.

Fires can spread quickly and unpredictably, particularly in bushland areas, placing lives at risk and causing lasting environmental damage.

Firefighters encourage parents, carers, and guardians to speak with young people about fire safety, responsible behaviour, and the very real consequences of lighting fires - not just legally, but to their own safety and the safety of others.

Early conversations and community awareness play an important role in preventing harm and keeping everyone safe.

Please see comments for video footage.
