Despite all the hustle and bustle at the lake, its really important to remember family is always number one.

I was lucky enough to be able to get away for a couple of day in April to surprise my mum with a gathering for her 80th birthday.

Despite being called a “sneaky tart” 😂😂 (gotta love my mum lol) she was super chuffed and had a great time.

And how special to be able to get 5 generations of family together for such a special day.

My mum, myself (my siblings were all working), my two sons, 2 of my 5 grandchildren and 1 of my two great grandchildren.

🌿 We’re Open… and it feels so good to say that again 🌿

After what feels like a long road, we’re so excited to finally welcome guests back to Sanctuary Lakes Fauna Retreat 💚

There are still a few finishing touches to come (and a couple of small limitations while everything is fully restored), but the doors are open, the birds are singing, and the lake is as peaceful as ever.

This weekend brings a buzz to the Bay with May in the Bay 🚗✨ — a fantastic time to visit if you love a bit of atmosphere, beautiful cars, and community vibes.

And before we know it… whale season will be here 🐋
From July, Humpback Whale will once again grace the waters of Hervey Bay — one of the best places in the world to see them up close.

But in between all of that… there’s something special waiting here.
Still mornings.
Fresh air.
Birdsong.
And that quiet exhale you didn’t realise you needed.

We went out for dinner the other night… and honestly, it felt really special 💛

Celebrating change.
Celebrating the lake reopening.
Celebrating life… even in the middle of everything.

Sometimes it’s the simple things — good food, good company, and a moment to just pause and appreciate how far you’ve come.

And can we just talk about the food for a second… 😅
Hervey Bay Hotel — you might just be my new favourite for Chinese. Absolutely yummmm 🤤

For those who have been asking, here are a few photos from the newly renovated rooms. All units received the tick of approval today, and furniture will start returning soon so we can get everything ready to welcome guests again.

Tomorrow is D-Day for the Lake 🌿

Can you believe it’s been almost 12 months to the exact day since the weather event that caused so much damage here. It’s been a long road of repairs, patience, and a lot of hard work behind the scenes.

Tomorrow we finally get to do the inspections on all the newly renovated cabins 🤞

If everything gets the tick of approval, we’ll be opening for business again as soon as possible.

Once approvals come through, we’ll be contacting all our wonderful owners because it will be all hands on deck — furniture back in, final touches done, and our team getting everything ready again.

The goal? A full house for Easter 🐣✨

So tonight we’re keeping everything crossed and sending out all the positive vibes that tomorrow is the day things finally turn the corner 💛

Today we honour the life of Cody, a much-loved team member of Sanctuary Lakes Fauna Retreat.

Cody worked with us for many years and was a gentle, kind-hearted soul who was deeply respected by everyone who had the privilege of working alongside him. He was a dedicated staff member and an absolute pleasure to have on our team.

His sense of humour and infectious grin could brighten even the longest day. Nothing was ever too much trouble for Codes, and his care and attention to our guests was second to none. His passion for our wildlife was a true reflection of the compassionate nature we all came to love.

Cody was always fun to work with and we fondly remember his laugh, his first taste of dragonfruit, our coconut cracker extraordinaire, and a loveable “rev head” who enjoyed life. His love and respect for his mum often shone through and his eyes lit up when he talked about her

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Cody’s mum, Narelle and to his family during this incredibly difficult time.

Cody will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all of us - management, staff and the many guests who had the privilege to know him.
