🔬🌱 Junior Science in Action! 🌱🔬

There was plenty of hands-on learning happening in Junior Science last week!

🚜 Prep explored technologies used on farms and how they help solve problems, before creating their own mini scarecrows.

🐻 Year 1 investigated how and why some animals migrate or hibernate, then put their new knowledge to the test with a fun game!

♻️ Year 2 learned how we can conserve resources through the 3 R’s – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle – and began creating posters to share these important messages around our school.

Another busy week of investigating, creating and learning in Junior Science! 💚

Sandy's Birthday
It's been a big day for Sandy (our school Mascot) at Sandy Strait- Sandy's birthday is today, the first day of Spring. Sandy has spent the day saying hello to students and staff, eating some cake and getting lots of cards and colouring pages from the students who were very happy to see Sandy. Thank you all involved in this fun activity!!

🔷📏 Learning and Growing in Prep S! 🌟

Our Prep S students have been busy exploring shapes and measurement through lots of creative, hands-on learning, including making shape monsters and snowflakes! ❄️👾

They've also been developing their speaking skills by learning to retell events, using drawings, discussions and writing to help share their ideas.

💚 Social and emotional learning continues to be an important part of Prep S too. Through The Colour Monster, our emotion vocabulary wall and zone charts, students are learning to recognise, name and communicate how they're feeling.

Lots of wonderful learning happening in Prep S! 🌟

Mathematics
Our Prep/Year 1 students have been busy putting their maths skills into action! 🧁➗

Using a cupcake problem, students worked together to explore sharing, grouping and division in a fun, hands-on way. It was wonderful to see so much mathematical thinking, discussion and problem-solving happening in the classroom! 💚📚

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SANDY (Our School Mascot)
After a long investigation, we have finally discovered Sandy the Sea Eagle’s birthday (or more accurately, Hatch Day!) 🥚🦅
🌼 Tuesday 1 September – the first day of spring! 🌼
Spring is a time when many birds are nesting and raising their young, and the timing fits nicely with the breeding season of White-bellied Sea Eagles in our part of Queensland. So, from now on, 1 September will be Sandy’s official Hatch Day! 🎂
