HBNC HBNC was founded in 1989 as a community-based initiative to provide help, friendship, and support to the most disenfranchised people in the community.

Our mission is to build a strong, cohesive, and healthy community by developing and providing programs, activities and services that respond to the needs of the most disadvantaged and isolated people. The emphasis of all of our activities is on people and the relief of issues and concerns that impede them from living a successful and happy life. We develop and deliver programs and services in resp

onse to community needs. Presently, HBNC manages 30 funded programs that encompass aspects of aged care, family services, diversity, and social isolation.

GET READY TO CREATE, PLAY & MAKE A LITTLE MAGIC!

Calling all our little artists, big imaginations and creative families!

Our Children’s Art Factory is coming to the Kids Kindness Village, and we’re inviting children to get hands-on, get creative and help bring our colourful cubby houses to life!

Across the day, children can paint, decorate and explore four interactive cubby houses, each with an important message about what every child deserves:

🏡 We All Belong – celebrating friendship, diversity and inclusion
🌱 We Can Grow – encouraging confidence, creativity and self-expression
🛡️ We Stay Safe – learning about personal space, body safety and trusted adults
📣 We Have a Voice – reminding children that their feelings and ideas matter

And the best part? It’s completely FREE!

Come along for a day filled with creativity, play, family fun, community connection and plenty of colourful mess!

What does a kinder community for our children look like?

It’s one where children feel safe. Where they know they belong. Where they have a voice, are listened to and have people around them who genuinely care about their wellbeing.

Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre is bringing those ideas to life with the Kid’s Kindness Village, a free family event being held for Queensland Children’s Week.

On Friday, September 11, families can visit the Hervey Bay Community Centre in Pialba and explore a colourful interactive village built around children’s rights, safety, inclusion and connection.

There will also be a Child Safe Parents Lounge and an opportunity to contribute to the Community Kindness Pledge.

Have a read of Building a Kinder World for Our Local Children in the September edition of Alive Magazine to discover what’s planned.

Because creating a community where children can flourish is something we all have a part in.

As we age, changes in balance, mobility, or even the subtle fear of having a fall can start to shrink our world—making daily activities feel harder and keeping us from doing the things we love.

That’s why we are introducing Balance for Life – Healthy Ageing Program, designed to help our local elders stay active, connected, and confident in a warm, welcoming space.

What is Balance for Life?
It’s a FREE 10-week program held at the Urangan Community Wellness Centre, created for residents aged 60+ who want to build strength, maintain independence, and meet friendly locals.

Each week includes:
gentle strength and mobility activities tailored to your pace
practical workshops & guest talks from health professionals
a relaxed group lunch to catch up and unwind.

From home safety and falls prevention to nutrition, brain health, and managing medications, you’ll gain practical tools to live safely and independently.

📅 Starts: Friday, 4th September 2026
⏰ Time: 10:00am – 1:00pm
📍 Where: Urangan Community Wellness Centre (Elizabeth St, Urangan)
Cost: FREE (funded by Country to Coast QLD through the PHN program)

Whether you’d like to join yourself or help a parent or grandparent take that positive step toward healthy ageing, we’d love to welcome you!

Please note that registration is required for this program and spaces are limited.

Looking back on the Fraser Coast Global Beats & Eats Festival, we are still feeling so grateful and overwhelmed by the amazing turnout and warm support shown to our HBNC community!

A huge, heartfelt thank you to every single person who helped make the day so special, vibrant, and purposeful.

To our amazing cultural groups, performers, and artists: Thank you for sharing your rich culture, stories, talents, and traditions with us. You brought the festival to life and created such a beautiful atmosphere of connection and celebration.

To all our food vendors, stallholders, and cooks: Thank you to everyone who prepared food, served, and cared for the crowd! The love and generosity that went into every dish was truly felt—you made sure everyone was welcomed and well-nourished.

To our incredible HBNC staff and volunteers: Thank you for your dedication, hard work, and energy. You gave your time, your hearts, and your talents to make sure everything came together seamlessly.

To our stage crew and behind-the-scenes team: So much of your hard work happens quietly, but it was absolutely essential to making an event of this scale run smoothly. We appreciate you!

To our Fraser Coast community who showed up: To everyone who attended, supported, danced, tasted, and encouraged—thank you. Every single contribution, no matter how big or small, helped make the day truly meaningful.

Most importantly, thank you for helping us create a space grounded in community, culture, connection, belonging, and purpose. It was such a powerful reminder of what is possible when our community comes together with heart.

We couldn’t have done it without you!
