This beautiful little garden is lovingly cared for by our volunteer Maree Stevens and was created in memory of her angel granddaughter, Olivia. ❤️

Recently, some kids on bikes rode straight through the new plantings and flattened them.

Now, they may not have understood the significance of this particular garden — but honestly, they shouldn’t need to.

You don’t destroy gardens.
You don’t damage community spaces.
You don’t wreck something somebody else has spent hours creating and caring for.

And I’m tired of hearing “kids will be kids.”

Kids make poor choices sometimes. Absolutely. But part of growing up is learning that choices have consequences, making things right and being held accountable.

This garden belongs to our community, but to Maree it means so much more.

Please talk to your kids about respecting our public spaces, our volunteers and the work people quietly put into making Heyfield a beautiful place to live.

And if you know who was involved, perhaps now would be a very good time for them to come back, apologise to Maree and help put right what they damaged.

That would teach a far better lesson than everyone simply shrugging their shoulders. ❤️

🌿 Our Friends have been busy!

On Saturday, the Friends of the Heyfield Wetlands had a great turnout for their working bee — beautiful weather, good company and plenty achieved.

Tree guards were removed, more planting was completed and quite a few jobs were knocked off the list. 💚

But there’s always more to do — and right now we could really use some extra help, particularly with w**d spraying and ongoing maintenance around the Wetlands.

If you’ve got the skills or simply some time you’d be willing to contribute, we’d love to hear from you. You don’t have to commit every week — even a little help makes a difference.

The Heyfield Adventure Hub is excited to be taking part in this year's Gippy Girls Can campaign this September. In partnership with Forest Therapy Practitioner Sue Stranger Renew and Nourish, the Heyfield Community Resource Centre and the Heyfield Wetlands Information Centre, we're inviting women to join us for Wellness at the Wetlands: Forest Bathing Walk.

Slow down, breathe deeply and immerse yourself in the calming presence and rhythm of nature. Through guided mindful presence practices, you'll be gently invited to awaken your senses, unwind from the busyness of everyday life and deepen your connection with the natural world as it reveals its beauty and wisdom. No experience is needed. Simply bring your curiosity, an open heart and comfortable walking shoes.

This welcoming event has been created for local women to enjoy gentle physical exercise while connecting with others in one of Heyfield's most beautiful natural spaces. Following the walk, participants are invited to stay and enjoy a relaxed morning tea together. Children are also welcome to attend, making it a wonderful opportunity to experience a nature walk as a family.

📸 Help us uncover the history of the Heyfield Wetlands!

We’re on the hunt for old photos of the Heyfield Wetlands site before it became the Wetlands we know today.

We’re especially looking for photos of:
🌿 The old racecourse
🚜 Tractor pulls
💦 Mud runs
🏇 Picnic races
🥕 Market gardens
🐄 Grazing stock
🏏 Football or cricket
🎉 Community events held on the site

Even if the Wetlands are only in the background of a family photo, we’d still love to see it!

These photos will help us preserve the history of this special place and share its story with visitors, school groups and future generations.

We’ve already spoken with the Heyfield and Districts Museum but we know there are plenty of photos tucked away in family albums that have never been shared publicly.

If you have any photos—or know someone who might—please comment below, send us a message or get in touch. We’re happy to scan originals and return them asap.

🌱 Another Saturday well spent at the Heyfield Wetlands.

Our regular Heyfield Wetlands Friends group rolled up their sleeves again on Saturday morning, planting more than 250 native plants around the wetlands.

It might have been fresh after the winter blast, but there’s something pretty special about spending a morning with good people, a few laughs, and knowing we’re making a real difference for future generations.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along. Every plant in the ground helps create better habitat for wildlife and makes the wetlands an even more beautiful place for our community to enjoy.

If you’ve been thinking about joining us, we’d love to have you. No experience needed—just bring your enthusiasm, a pair of gloves and we’ll supply the rest.

Fresh, flavour-packed dinner without the dishes? Sounds like a win to me.

And the winner is… 🔥🪵

A huge congratulations to Rob Ennis from Coongulla, who took home the wood raffle prize for the Heyfield Wetlands today!

The timing couldn’t have been better. Rob told us he was just about to head out and get some firewood, so this win has saved him the trip. 😊

A big thank you to everyone who bought a ticket and supported the raffle, especially Sharon and Peter, who sold the final tickets today, and to Heyfield Wetlands Committee President Wendy Rhodes, who had the honour of drawing the winning ticket.

Every ticket sold helps support improvements and projects at the Heyfield Wetlands, and we’re incredibly grateful for the community support.
