Wear a splash of orange to celebrate SES volunteers and visit our open night at 7pm.

There’s no emergency quite like a fashion emergency, so make sure you’ve picked out your splash of orange for Wear Orange Wednesday on 20 May in advance!

Find out more about how you can say thank you to our amazing SES volunteers on our website: www.ses.vic.gov.au/news-and-media/campaigns/wear-orange-wednesday

An issue we've had for a while is only having two trained and accredited chainsaw operators. This has put pressure onto those two to attend to 'tree down' jobs.

A few weekends ago, another two of our members did the training and we gained another two chainsaw operators! This now eases the pressure on the first two. Well done Ian and Paul!

If you'd like to help ease the pressures on your very few local SES Heywood Unit members, we welcome you to make contact. We are growing, and gaining necessary skills, and we'd like to share these with like-minded community members who join up as well.

All nearby units welcome applicants, the more we have, the less load we as individuals carry. If you can spare:
2 hours a week for training
Call outs - varies, sometimes nothing for a week, and other times multiples
Variety of times - day, night, super early hours of the morning (we have mints for those jobs)
Don't use the "Q" word (another word for 'shhh') to describe the l*l in jobs

Thank you to all that came to support our SES Heywood Unit with the Open Night last night (Thursday 30th April).

Past, present and emerging members attended, along with our own cheer squads!

Lots of discussions, observations, and connections.

Here are just a few of the pics from last night - check out some longer-standing members reminiscing over the pictures on the slide show.

Next month (Wednesday 20th May ):
Line Search & Rescue will be the focus, along with radios, knot competition, and more.

Open night, 7pm tonight (Thurs), at the Heywood shed - 6 Scott St, at the end of the street past the public toilets.
Come meet the local crew and see some of the activities we do -
* Road Crash Rescue - our trained members will do a live demo (safety measures for your protection)
* Line Search - mock set up, like in real life, but you guys get to help us search for lost items that may be relevant clues - if we have time, if not, it'll be on like Donkey Kong on our next Open Night Wednesday 20th May
* Knots - compete against us, if you dare
* Radios - pick your SES duo
* low angle rescue and safe transfer
* meet the local SES real life mascot - Otis
* plus more
Free tea and coffee
Below are just some of the pictures of what we've been up to over the last 12 months - there'll be a sideshow of pictures from nearly 50 years ago to present day on the night!
