🔨 Try a Trade Experience 🔨

Today, HSSC students ventured out to Try a Trade in partnership with Construction Skills Queensland at the modular facility of Hutchinson Builders.

Students gained invaluable hands-on experience exploring the trades of carpentry, tiling and painting, developing new skills while learning about exciting career pathways in the construction industry.

At Highfields State Secondary College, we are proud to offer certificate-level trade courses taught by trade-qualified teachers, giving students practical, industry-relevant learning opportunities that prepare them for future careers.

A big thank you to Construction Skills Queensland and Hutchinson Builders for providing such a fantastic experience for our students! 👷🛠️

🌱 Year 10 Agricultural Science Excursion 🌱

Our Year 10 Agricultural Science students had a fantastic morning visiting Withcott Seedlings for a behind-the-scenes site tour! Students enjoyed learning about the seedling production process, exploring the nursery, and gaining a greater understanding of the horticulture industry.

A huge thank you to the team at Withcott Seedlings for welcoming us and sharing your knowledge. We also really appreciate you providing the seedlings that our class has been growing as part of our learning this term.

It was a valuable hands-on experience that helped connect classroom learning with the horticulture industry. Thank you for your hospitality and support! Eat more fruit and Veg!🌿👩‍🌾👨‍🌾

🌟 Student Leadership in Action 🌟

Our College Captains joined student leaders from Wilsonton State High School and Centenary Heights State High School for a Captains Conference today.

The afternoon was a great opportunity to reflect on their leadership journey this year, share experiences, and connect with fellow student leaders from across our local schools.

🎓 Year 8 Career Exploration at UniSQ! 🚀

Our Year 8 students enjoyed an action-packed day at UniSQ, diving into a range of exciting career exploration activities and discovering the many pathways available to them after school.

From hands-on challenges to interactive workshops, students had the opportunity to explore different industries, learn about future careers, and experience what university life is all about.

A fantastic day full of curiosity, teamwork, and new possibilities! 🌟

Highfields Cluster Music Showcase

On Friday the 28th of August, over 200 students from 8 schools in our region came together for the third annual 'Highfields Cluster Music Showcase'. Hosted at Highfields State Secondary College, over 500 friends and family were in attendance to support the talented instrumental music students from across our region. Students are commended on their incredible commitment to their various ensembles and on their performances throughout the evening. A huge congratulations to the dedicated Instrumental Music teachers from our region, Mr Luke Todd, Mrs Christine Kleidon and Mrs Kellie McKensey. Lastly, a big thank you to the HSSC P&C, staff and senior students who supported this event by running the BBQ and canteen.

Subject displays will be hosted by staff in the Stadium from 3:15pm – 5pm and an additional Senior Schooling Information Session will be held in the PAC from 5pm – 5:45pm.
Any families intending to enrol for Year 11 in 2027 are also welcome to attend

🧪 Thank You, Highfields State School Year 4! 🌱🔬

A huge thank you to the wonderful Year 4 students and teachers from Highfields State School for visiting to celebrate Science Week with us!

Our visitors became real scientists as they explored a range of hands-on activities, including:

🌽 Solving the Colourful Popcorn Mystery
🌱 Creating their own seed bombs to take home
🐦 Investigating bird beaks and how they help birds survive
💡 Exploring light and colour with our light boxes

It was fantastic to see so much curiosity, teamwork and excitement as students asked questions, made predictions and discovered how science is all around us.

We loved having you on campus and hope you had as much fun as we did! We can’t wait to welcome you back to HSSC again soon. 💙💛
