Our thoughts are with the volunteers from Marine Rescue Ballina and everyone involved.

Yesterday, while responding to assist a yacht in distress, a tragic accident occurred when the rescue vessel overturned in treacherous conditions. Two dedicated volunteers and one occupant of the yacht lost their lives during the rescue effort. Four other Marine Rescue volunteers were able to make it to shore alive.

We extend our deepest condolences to the Marine Rescue Ballina unit, the families, friends, and colleagues of those who passed. Their service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Today we pause to recognise the dedication, courage, and commitment of firefighters across Australia and around the world.

To all firefighters, volunteer and career, thank you!

Regardless of the uniform you wear or the badge on your shoulder, you work side by side with the same goal:
Protecting life and property. Your professionalism, bravery, and resilience do not go unnoticed, and today we honour every one of you.

To our Hilldene Fire Brigade volunteers, thank you for the countless hours spent training, responding, supporting the community, and stepping up whenever you’re needed. Your willingness to leave family, work, and comfort at a moment’s notice is something truly special.

We also acknowledge the families, employers, and supporters who stand behind all firefighters every day. Your support makes this work possible.

On International Firefighters’ Day, we honour those who continue to serve and those who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Their dedication and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Stay safe, look after each other, and thank you for supporting your local volunteers.

With under 24 hours to go until the big draw, there’s still time to grab your winning ticket!

It’s been a mammoth effort from our volunteers to get this far, and we can’t thank our community, both near and far, for the incredible support you’ve shown throughout this fundraiser.

And let’s not forget… this entire raffle wouldn’t have been possible without the amazing generosity of our local businesses, who donated every single prize. Yep!Every prize on the flyer was donated by those legends!

The big draw will be live-streamed on Facebook at approximately 7pm on Monday, 4 May.
Winners will be contacted following the draw.

Still need a ticket? Or want more chances to win?! Send us a message through Facebook to secure yours now!

Yes, it’s Saturday.
No, the weather is not suitable.

Volunteers have already been called out twice today, before midday because burn-offs got away.

The weather has been wrong all day.
No burns should be lit, at all.

Use your head. Don’t assume. Don’t risk it.
If conditions aren’t right, don’t light it.

Today is NOT the day, it can wait another weekend like lots of other projects..

Don’t be that person that thinks 'she'll be right, it's only small.'

Smelling smoke or seeing columns in the distance?
Fire services are making the most of perfect weather to conduct fuel reduction burns.
There are multiple burns currently under way only short distances from Hilldene/Seymour and surrounds.
These planned burns help reduce bushfire risk, fuel loads and to keep our communities safe.

Please only call 000 if you can see actual flames or an emergency developing.
Smoke alone isn’t a reason to call.

Alright Hilldene/Seymour and surrounds! — we’re calling on YOU!

We need one final mighty push to clear out the last of our raffle tickets before the big draw on Monday night (May 4)!

We’re so close to the finish line we can almost taste it! But we can’t get there without your help. Every ticket you grab goes straight back into the brigade, which means better gear, better support, and a stronger community.

We’ll be at Bunnings Seymour from 10am Saturday, proudly showing off the first prize. So come on down, have a yarn, snag some tickets, and help a small local brigade smash our goal out of the park.

You live further away you say? Can't make it down? Well send us a message and we can arrange the purchase of tickets!

Let’s get it done together — we’ve got this!

Last week at training, we undertook vital Breathing Apparatus (BA) work to ensure our members keep their qualifications current and their skills sharp.

The scenario: a reported structure fire with smoke issuing from the building, with two people unaccounted for.
The mission: search the building, locate the missing people, and extract them safely.

With zero visibility and a high level of difficulty, our BA crews navigated obstacles set up to replicate the inside of a building. Once the missing people were found and removed, crews then had to recall and draw the interior layout—putting their memory and situational awareness to the test under pressure.

This training was made possible thanks to a successful grant received through Inland Rail With this support, we were able to purchase a smoke machine and two training dummies, which have already proven invaluable in creating realistic and effective training sessions.

Grants like this help us invest in essential training equipment, ensuring our volunteers can continue to serve our community safely and confidently.
