A valuable morning of listening and reflection during National Reconciliation Week.
Members of the Era Advisory team attended last week’s National Reconciliation Week Breakfast hosted by . Era Advisory is proud to have supported this year’s event as a Mariner Sponsor.
The event was hosted by Rob Valentine, with Reconciliation Tasmania CEO Pauline Cook sharing reflections during the morning.
We heard from panellists Cody Gangnell-Smith, Alison Overeem, Rodney Gibbins and Professor Tim McCormack, with Sinsa Mansell and Ryk Goddard as panel co-chairs. Each speaker shared personal reflections on the importance of truth-telling, reckoning with our shared history, and the ongoing work needed to create meaningful change.
A consistent theme throughout the discussion was the need to sit with discomfort, to listen openly, recognise and respect the depth of lived experience and perspective, and approach this work with honesty and humility — reflecting this year’s theme of Truth. Reckoning. Change.
The discussion also reinforced the important role non-palawa people have in this work, not as observers, but as active participants in listening, learning and contributing to meaningful progress.
The morning also included powerful performances by DENNI, reinforcing the strength, resilience and continuing connection of Tasmanian Aboriginal people to their culture and story.
As an organisation working across Lutruwita / Tasmania, moments like this are an important reminder of the role we all play in supporting respectful relationships and meaningful progress.
Thank you to Reconciliation Tasmania for creating space for these important conversations.
