Last night, OCDT Yang from SUR was promoted from OCDT to the rank of CAPT. Our SUR Padre Chaplain Frank Langford had the unique honour of promoting OCDT Yang. OCDT Yang, prior to joining the Australian Army, served in numerous ministries.

He will now take up a role within the Royal Australian Army Chaplains department. After this, we had a BBQ celebration, which gave the unit a chance to come together for this great event. Well done, CAPT Yang, from the Commanding Officer and members - we are all proud of your achievement.

Today is International Nurses Day, The Sydney University Regiment acknowledges the selfless service and sacrifice of nurses, both today and throughout Australia’s history.

Nurses have played a vital role in the Australian Defence Force from its earliest days to the present, providing critical care and support during combat, peacekeeping, and humanitarian operations for both military personnel and civilians.

On behalf of the Commanding Officer, Cassandra Lees, and Regimental Sergeant Major, WO1 Racheal Sheppard, both whom are mothers, Happy Mother’s Day. RSM Sheppard, our thoughts are with you and your family whilst you are deployed.

A special mention for all the OCDTs, instructors and staff currently deployed on Modules 2 and 4, some themselves mothers and grandmothers, who are unable to contact their mother, sister, wife, significant female in their life - thank you for your ongoing support and love.

To the mums currently serving and deployed away from their families, we recognise the sacrifices you continue to make in service to our nation.

To the mothers at home holding families together during deployments and absences, your strength, resilience and unwavering support never go unnoticed.

To the mums who have served and returned after years of sacrifice and time away from loved ones, thank you for your dedication, commitment and service.

We also pause to remember the mothers we hold dearly in our hearts today.

Your strength, sacrifice and love make a lasting difference every single day.
