🌏 UNITED NATIONS DAY
24 OCTOBER

Today, we pause to honour the courage, dedication and sacrifice of all those who have served under the United Nations flag in the pursuit of peace, stability and security around the world.

United Nations Day commemorates the entry into force of the UN Charter on 24 October 1945 — a historic milestone that laid the foundation for international cooperation and a shared commitment to a more peaceful world.

🇦🇺 Since 1947, more than 65,000 Australians have contributed to over 50 UN-led peacekeeping missions across the globe. These men and women have served with distinction, often in the most challenging and dangerous environments, helping protect vulnerable communities, support peace processes and bring hope to those affected by conflict.

Their service represents the very best of humanity — courage in the face of adversity, compassion in times of suffering, and an unwavering commitment to something greater than themselves.

Today, Australia continues to support UN peacekeeping efforts, standing alongside the international community in the pursuit of lasting peace and global security.

We honour every Australian who has worn the blue beret, served beneath the UN flag, and answered the call to serve in the cause of peace. We also remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice and those whose service has left a lasting legacy.

Their service will never be forgotten. Their sacrifice will never be in vain. Their legacy lives on in the peace they helped build.

WAR WIDOWS DAY – 19 OCTOBER

Today, on War Widows Day, we pause to recognise and remember the wives and partners of Australian service personnel who lost their lives through war and service.

Behind every fallen service member was a family whose sacrifice continued long after the fighting ended.

War widows and their families have carried the burden of loss while raising families, supporting one another and keeping alive the memory of those who never returned home.

Today is an opportunity for our community to acknowledge their strength, resilience and sacrifice, and to ensure their stories are never forgotten.

To all war widows, widowers, partners and families — we remember and honour you.

🇦🇺 HONOURING OUR HEROES. PRESERVING OUR HISTORY. SERVING OUR COMMUNITY. 🇦🇺

Another outstanding day of service for the Sydney University Regiment! 💪🎖️
Our soldiers had the privilege of working alongside the dedicated team at the Kokoda Memorial Walkway in Concord, helping install an incredible 580 photographs commemorating those who lost their lives on the Kokoda Track.

As we approach Remembrance Day, this was far more than just a task — it was an opportunity to honour the courage, sacrifice and enduring legacy of those who gave so much for our freedom.
Working in partnership with City of Canada Bay Council, Paddington RSL and the Kokoda Memorial Walkway staff, our Regiment was proud to contribute to a project that will help preserve these stories for future generations.

For our soldiers, it was a powerful opportunity to connect with Australia's military history, reflect on the sacrifices of our veterans, and give back to the community in a truly meaningful way.

The Kokoda campaign stands as a powerful reminder of courage, mateship, resilience and sacrifice. By helping bring these faces and stories to life, our soldiers played a small but important part in ensuring that the men and women who served will never be forgotten.

This is what service is all about — learning from our past, honouring those who came before us, and making a positive difference in the community today.

The Sydney University Regiment continues to demonstrate that service extends well beyond the parade ground. Through initiatives like this, our soldiers are helping preserve our nation's history while living the values of duty, respect, teamwork and service.

To everyone involved, thank you for the opportunity to contribute to such a special and important project.

🇦🇺 25 Years Since Australia’s Longest War – We Remember.

Today marks the 25th anniversary of Australia’s longest war. Members of the Sydney University Regiment attended the commemorative ceremony at the Anzac Memorial in Hyde Park, hosted by RSL NSW, to pause, reflect and remember.

We honour all those who deployed in service to our nation, the families who stood beside them and supported them through the challenges of service, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

We also remember those who returned home carrying both visible and invisible wounds, and acknowledge the ongoing impact of service on veterans, their families and loved ones.

Today is a time to reflect on the sacrifices made, the courage shown, the bonds forged and the enduring legacy of all who served.

We remember those who served. We honour those we lost. We stand beside those who continue to carry the burden of service.

On this day, 25 years ago, the Australian Defence Force (ADF) established Operation Slipper, its first declared operation for the war in Afghanistan.

Between 2001 and 2021, more than 35,000 ADF members were deployed to Afghanistan and the wider Middle East Area of Operations in relation to Afghanistan. Australians from government and non-government organisations worked alongside ADF and coalition forces, as well as Afghan nationals during this period. This included members of the Australian Federal Police, Australian diplomats, aid and humanitarian workers.

Today, we pay our respects and remember the service and sacrifice of all who served in the war in Afghanistan.🇦🇫

We acknowledge the physical and mental burdens carried by many veterans and families of veterans, and those feeling the weight and grief of loved ones lost.

Today, members of the Sydney University Regiment (SUR) are doing a fantastic job coaching the Men’s Australian Defence Force Soccer Team at Randwick Barracks! 👏🔥

It’s a brilliant example of leadership, teamwork and service in action — sharing knowledge, developing skills and helping inspire the next generation of Defence Force soccer players. 💪⚽

Through sport, our Regiment members are building connections, mentoring future talent and demonstrating the values that make our Defence community so strong. 🫡🇦🇺
