Tim Hort, training officer extraordinaire from FQM delivered training to some of our Hopetoun VFES crew. Cam Tink from Ravensthorpe also joined us to refresh his cert. Huge thanks to Tim for a fun but comprehensive training day, and to FQM for donating Tim’s time. Our volunteers are all required to have current first aid certification at all times, so this is greatly appreciated.
Thank you to our crew members who gave up their valuable Saturday time.

Our crews are battling large bushfires right across the Kimberley! 😲🔥

Some of these are deliberately lit, placing unnecessary pressure on firefighters, land managers and emergency services, while putting communities, infrastructure and Country at risk.

To stop these fires from spreading further, crews often carry out backburning, a firefighting tactic to burn vegetation ahead of an approaching fire to remove fuel and slow its spread.

It might look unusual if you're travelling through the region, but it's critical to bring large bushfires under control to protect lives and property.

If you're travelling through the Kimberley, you can also help reduce the risk of bushfires:

🚬 Never throw cigarette butts from your vehicle.
⛺ Check wind conditions and fire restrictions before lighting a campfire.
🔥 Always make sure your campfire is completely extinguished before leaving.
🌿 If you're living in the region, keep long grass and rubbish clear around your property.
📱 Download the Emergency WA app to stay informed with the latest incidents and warnings wherever you are.

If you see suspicious fire activity, report it immediately to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. If you see a fire or your life is in danger, call Triple Zero (000).

Good Day Everyone!

As result of a successful grant application by Hopetoun VFES to the SOR Future Funds ($20K), and additional donations from Hopetoun Men In Shed, Galaxy Resources, Medallion Metals, and FQM, Hopetoun streets are currently having property numbers repainted by Ryan of Great Southern Line Marking and his assistant Zac. This initiative is to enable all emergency crews to find your property easier and quicker should you need any of our services.
Give Ryan and Zac a beep of your horn if you pass them by.
Stage 2 will commence in Ravensthorpe soon.
