A great turn out for the ANZAC parade in Ravey this morning. Here is our Daryl Quinn who recently received his National Medal. Daryl is a long serving member of Hopetoun VFES, SES, and was also a long serving member of St John Ambulance.

The National Medal is Australia's most awarded civilian medal, recognizing long and diligent service by individuals in government and voluntary organisations who risk their lives or safety to protect the community. Established in 1975, it honors 15 years of operational service in organizations like police, fire, ambulance, and emergency services.

THANK A FIREY DAY
Thanks to our amazing VFES, and bushy crews in Hopetoun, and the Shire. Your dedication is greatly appreciated.

Also a huge shout out of thanks to all the career firefighters, other volunteer crews, support personnel, and management, we have had the pleasure of working alongside with and learning from. You are all incredible. And lastly, definitely not least of all - a mega thanks to all our families who support us and sacrifice so much to allow us to carry out our roes.

It’s been a tough season so far locally, and one which will never be forgotten. Whatever part you’ve played, no matter how big or small, thank you!

Your support means more to our firies than you realise 🥹🔥

Today, on Thank a Firey Day, show some love to the legends who run towards danger to keep our loved ones safe 💙

In the past year alone, our career and volunteer firefighters have responded to over 5,700 bushfires, 3,300 road crash rescues, 1,400 structure fires and countless other emergencies across the State, but the numbers don’t tell the full story.

Behind every call-out are hundreds of hours of training, missed family moments and relentless sacrifices, the early starts and quiet acts that often go unseen, like comforting someone on their worst day, teaching kids about fire safety, helping families who’ve lost everything or checking in on a mate doing it tough.

It takes courage, dedication and heart to do this job. It’s a tough gig and they do it to protect their community – time and time again.
