What a beautiful first day of winter! ☀️ The brigade garden is looking fantastic, with a bountiful crop of passionfruit 🍈 almost ready to pick and healthy papaya and dragon fruit on the way.

The Horseshoe Bay District Fire Warden has issued a PERMIT TO LIGHT to a local rural landowner off Gifford Street from tomorrow, Monday 25th May - Friday 29th May, 2026 - weather permitting.
Smoke may be visible in the surrounding area of Gifford Street and Dolphin Court, Horseshoe Bay from mid afternoon.
For emergencies ring 000 📞
All fires more than 2m x 2m x 2m in any direction require a permit. You can find your local fire warden via the following link:

The Horseshoe Bay Rural Fire Brigade will be conducting a permitted burn for a rural landowner around the western end of Gifford Street, tomorrow, Sunday 24th May, 2026 -weather permitting.
Smoke may be visible in the surrounding area from mid morning to early afternoon.

Thanks to a recent successful grant from the RFBAQ - Rural Fire Brigades Association Queensland Inc, the brigade recently took delivery of an additional six PPC/PPE lockers for our ever growing crew.
Big thank you to FSP Oz Products Pty Ltd for the timely production of the units and NQ Freighters Pty Ltd and Magnetic Island Transport for the timely delivery to Townsville and then onto the island👏
The Rural Fire Brigades Association Queensland (RFBAQ) receives no local, state, or federal government funding. Lest We Forget. 🌹 Today marks exactly 70 years of service, community, and mateship for the Magnetic Island RSL Sub-Branch.
On the evening of 21 May 1956, 22 local veterans gathered for an inaugural meeting at the Alma Bay Guesthouse, sparking a legacy that still thrives today.
Among that foundation committee were three trailblazers who also helped form the Horseshoe Bay Bush Fire Brigade in 1959, RS "Stan" Pedler, RE "Bob" Hennequin, and CW "Chaz" Hazeldene.
In an extraordinary act of generosity, Stan Pedler gifted one of his beachfront properties at Horseshoe Bay in 1948 to the Townsville RSL Sub-branch as a holiday centre. The sale of that land some years later, directly funded the purchase of the Charters Towers Road property where the Townsville RSL Sub-branch stands today. To the 22 founding veterans, thank you for your service, your incredible vision, and your enduring legacy.

Today we say a huge thank you and happy farewell to Emily, our Area Office Business Support Officer! 👋
Emily has worked tirelessly behind the scenes for the last nine months, supporting not just our brigade, but all of our rural fire brigades and management committees in the Townsville area. We are incredibly grateful for her dedication and hard work.
As she leaves the RFSQ today for a new career adventure, we wish her nothing but the best. You will be missed, Emily!

We are thrilled to welcome the newest member of our rural 🔥family, Vicki the Vet Nurse!🐨👩‍🔬🐍🐢🦎🦅🦈🐾🩺
Vicki moved to Maggie late last year, to take on the role of head ranger at Magnetic Island Koala Park and now she is joining our brigade as a vital Support Member.👏
As rural fire volunteers, we often face unique challenges involving our local environment and wildlife. Vicki’s incredible professionalism, veterinary and zookeeping background, and deep ranger skills will blend perfectly with our operations.
When you see Vicki around the station or out in the community, please give her a warm Maggie welcome! We are incredibly lucky to have her skills on board to help protect our island.
