Hi all,

In my recent communications (HHS 1972 Starters) I recently received this reply from a collegue who works with one on my old classmates, wondering if I could supply her with some information and I thought I'd pass it on for a bit of assistance. Can anyone else help. I'm sure Dianne would appreciate it .

Hi Andrew,

I'm not sure how this College got onto your distribution list, however I enjoyed reading about your 1972 classmates, and wondered if you have any info on ˜really old" students.

My Grandma was a Barwell, they were Tailors and lived in Horsham. I know my Dad was staying with his relatives there in the 1920s.

I'm 64 so goodness knows when they went to school there or if your high school is in fact the original school. Anyway, I thought you might know something about that era or of someone who does. I have heard there are still quite a few Barwell's in Horsham and when retire I'm going to do the family tree.

No stress is intended, your email just caught my imagination. My old High school just held a reunion for the students of the 60s and it was great fun too.

Regards,
Dianne

Hi all ... Just had a former student point out that next year (2014) will be the 50th anniversary of the 'Class of 64' (students who started in 1959) and was wondering if there was going to be a reunion ... Perhaps we can have some feedback from some other students from that time-frame ?

Just thought I'd let you know of a worthy venture to support, which is being organized by one of my old school-mates Ian Draaisma. This will be of particular interest to those who attended Horsham High School - Victoria - Australia during the 1972-1977 era.

The weekend begins with a presentation on Friday night entitled 'Is Meditation for You?', which is followed by 2 meditation technique & practice workshops on Saturday from 9am - 12noon and again from 1pm - 4pm with lunch, afternoon tea and chat.

Whilst I understand the situation from a personal point-of-view (some of my own family being involved/empolyed in the education 'industry') ... It's all very well for teachers to cry 'poor' but I challenge ALL teachers to have the courage to inform a nieve public what 'education workers' ACTUALLY get paid and for EXACTLY how many hours of work, both during and after 'class-time'.

MOST people in employment are required to put in extra work that is not 'official time' and have to pay for things out of their own pockets to help them keep their employment (which, incidently, can usually be claimed as a tax deduction). The majority of people (especially those in 'professional positions' get paid for a position/job, NOT on the basis of x number of hours worked, but by what it takes to get the job DONE - and VERY few jobs have ANY guarantee of employment and definitely do not have any guarantee of continuation - Just look at Australia's car industry, etc ... This is the way the 'real world' works!

As far as 'paying for materials out your own pocket' ... If there is no budget (or insufficient) then raise the money in other ways, apply or increase 'course fees' as required for that particular subject/course, hold a fete, conduct raffles, seek community help, ask manufacturers and companies to assist, etc. - It's been done before ... there ARE other options ... That's the way we did it in 'our time' !

The fact is ... YES ... It IS a changing world, yet there would be a LOT of people staggered by how 'badly done by' teachers are NOT -- I guess it would be hard for some people to live on a mere $57,000 and $92,000 per year (that's MORE than most fire-fighters and paramedics) and as for a Pricipal's salary, WELL, that's even MORE ...

WAKE UP PUBLIC ... This is, primarily, a political issue and you're being misled - BIGTIME !!
