Councillors had the pleasure of meeting Kaden this week, where he shared his experiences competing at the Queensland School State Championships in Toowoomba. Kaden proudly represented our region in the North West 13-14 Years Boys Rugby League Team across four days of competition 🏉

Council was thrilled to support Kaden through the Sporting Excellence Donation Program, which helps local athletes and their families with the costs associated with attending representative sporting events. The program is designed to encourage local participation in sport and support our talented sportspeople to pursue opportunities and compete at higher levels.

Congratulations Kaden, on your dedication, determination and achievements. We look forward to following your sporting journey and celebrating your future successes 🎉

💧 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 ‘𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗲’ 𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘂𝗽𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲𝘀 💧

Flinders Shire Council is forging ahead with critical works to secure the region’s water supply, with a tender for the design of a new water treatment plant kicking off the Flinders Full Bore water and wastewater infrastructure upgrades.

Backed by $20 million in state funding, Flinders Full Bore is one of the most significant water infrastructure initiatives ever undertaken by Council.

It includes the development of a new water treatment plant, planning for sewer treatment plant upgrades, brand-new water supply infrastructure and improvements to strategic bore assets, transforming how water is sourced, treated and delivered across the Shire for decades to come.

Flinders Full Bore addresses long-term concerns about water quality and security, and will deliver significant community benefits, including:
🚰 improved drinking water quality
💦 increased reliability of supply
🏘️ future-proofing infrastructure for future growth.

Flinders Shire Mayor Kate Peddle said the strong response to a market sounding for the Hughenden Water Treatment Plant design development tender was a defining milestone for the project and proof that it was well and truly out of the planning phase.

“After two long years of advocacy, planning and persistence, we are finally at the point where we can say this is not just a plan anymore. It’s happening, it’s underway and we are going full bore,” said Mayor Peddle.

𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗥𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝘆 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸, 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗛𝘂𝗴𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻'𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗰𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗲?

Construction of the Hughenden Cenotaph and Memorial Park is underway and slated for completion by Remembrance Day in November.

The project aims to provide a safer, more accessible and comfortable space for commemorative services through additional shade, amenities and parking.

Relocating the cenotaph to Robert Gray Park will also reduce the need for road closures during ceremonies and support greater use of the park for community events and gatherings.

The $143,000 project is jointly funded through the Queensland Government’s Honouring Our Veterans Grants Program and the Australian Government’s Saluting Their Service Commemorative Grants Program.
