MRNSW is an independent not-for-profit organisation that is NSW’s official volunteer marine rescue service, committed to its mission of saving lives on the water. Over 3,000 volunteers provide the boat crews, radio operators and fundraisers that keep the organisation on the water providing a safety net for boaters. Marine Rescue Jervis Bay is located in Huskisson and provides key services of emergency response, log-on and vessel tracking, traffic monitoring and, as a Registered Training Organisation, boating safety education for locals and visitors to Jervis Bay. MRNSW receives generous support from the state through a levy on boat licence and registration fess, however each unit raises over 50% of running costs through fundraising activities throughout the year. A comprehensive modernisation program is providing volunteers with state of the art vessels, purpose designed and equipped for rescue operations

While it might be raining out there today ☔🌧️ — we still love seeing visitors like our feathered friends! 🐦💙

Harold had a special little mate stop by to say hello and brighten the day down at Marine Rescue Jervis Bay.

Rain or shine, there’s always something happening on the water! 🌊

This National Volunteer Week, we’re celebrating the amazing people behind Marine Rescue — the volunteers who give up their time to help keep our community safe on the water 💙

Now we’d love to hear from YOU.
Has one of our volunteers helped you, supported you, waved as you headed out, or simply made a difference in our community? Leave a message of thanks, a memory, or a few kind words in the comments below.

We’ll be sharing your messages back with our members as a reminder of why they do what they do. Your words will mean the world to the volunteers who quietly give so much of themselves, day and night, rain or shine.

Help us show our volunteers just how appreciated they truly are 👏

This National Volunteer Week, we want to acknowledge the incredible people who make Marine Rescue Jervis Bay what it is. 💙

Behind every callout, every radio watch, every patrol, every fundraiser, and every training night are volunteers giving their time purely to help others.

Our members miss family dinners, give up weekends, leave the comfort of home in the early hours of the morning, and step up whenever the community needs them. They do it not for recognition, but because they genuinely care about keeping people safe on the water and supporting one another.

What makes this unit special is not just the rescue boats or the radios, but the people. The friendships formed, the support shown during difficult times, the laughter after long days, and the willingness to always stand beside each other.

To every volunteer, thank you. Thank you for your selflessness, your compassion, your commitment, and the heart you bring to this unit every single day. We are beyond grateful for everything you do and proud to serve alongside you.

Happy National Volunteer Week 💙

Last night was the darkest night ever experienced by Marine Rescue NSW.

Marine Rescue NSW volunteers answer the call for help 24/7 and last night six members from Marine Rescue Ballina did just that. They launched with a single mission, to save lives on the water and assist a yacht, reported to be in difficulty off the South Ballina break wall.

Tragically, two of our volunteers lost their lives during the response.

Marine Rescue NSW Commissioner Todd Andrews said the devastating loss is a solemn reminder of the risks faced by volunteers who serve their communities.

“These two men were serving their local community and have made the ultimate sacrifice to help others.

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the families and loved ones of the deceased, their fellow crew members, the brave radio operators who handled the difficult communications during the incident, the entire Marine Rescue NSW family and the wider Ballina community during this incredibly difficult time.

“We are supporting our volunteers and their families through professional counselling and chaplaincy support.

“We ask that the privacy of those involved and their families be respected during this difficult time,” Commissioner Andrews said.

Marine Rescue Jervis Bay recently received a generous grant from Veolia Mulwaree Trust for a sturdy, portable defibrillator for our Rescue Watercraft (RWCs).

We know that equipment can be thrown around while our RWCs are on the move, especially during rapid response operations. This heavy‑duty defibrillator ticks all the boxes. We’ve put it through its paces and it has proven to be a vital first‑aid asset that helps us keep lives safe on the water.

Thank you so much to Veolia Mulwaree Trust for your generous support.
