Today, on International Firefighters' Day, we pause to honour those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, and to pay tribute to the courage, sacrifice and unwavering commitment of firefighters.

These moving words are a fitting tribute to the brave individuals who put themselves in harm's way to protect our communities - we express our deepest gratitude to all firefighters for your service.

πŸ“ž When to Call the SES πŸ“ž

During severe weather events like cyclones, it’s important to know when to reach out for help and when to use emergency services.

🚨 If anyone is trapped or injured, always call Triple Zero (000) ‼️

For storm-related assistance, the SES is here to help. You should call 132 500 if:

🌧️ Your roof is leaking heavily or has been badly damaged
🌊 Your home is flooded or starting to flood
🏠 Your house has significant damage and needs temporary repairs you can’t safely do yourself
πŸšͺ You are trapped in your home due to storm damage
🌳 A large tree has fallen on your house or is blocking access to your property

If the damage is minor and safe to manage, you may need to contact your insurance provider or a private contractor.

🀝 Remember - the SES is here to help keep our community safe. Don’t hesitate to call if you need assistance.

⚠️ Cyclone Preparedness ⚠️

With Tropical Cyclone Narelle inbound, we’d like to remind our community that even though Hyden is inland, we can still experience strong winds, heavy rain, and dangerous conditions as the system moves through.

Now is the time to prepare:
🏠 Check and secure your roof
🌳 Trim branches to prevent them falling
🌿 Tie down or put away loose outdoor items like trampolines, furniture, and tools
πŸš— Move vehicles under cover where possible
πŸ”¦ Make sure you have torches, batteries, and emergency supplies ready

πŸ“± Stay up to date by regularly checking the Emergency WA app for the latest alerts and advice.

A little preparation now can make a big difference. Stay safe and look out for one another πŸ’›
