Remembering the beautiful sweetheart, British Military Search Dog Dyna, who crossed the rainbow bridge on 2nd June 2023. 💔🐾🌈

There is a special kind of sadness that comes with knowing so many incredible families who become the hooman guardians of such noble warriors.

Dyna was the sun and moon of the desert, a beautiful British Army Search Dog, and RMWD Stikky’s very first real dogo love crush.

Almost 13 years young, and 5 years into the most wonderful retirement, Dyna was truly loved, truly blessed, and surrounded by beautiful hoomans and her dogo sibling.

She went from kennel life to a Hypnos bed in one leap, and from that moment on, she had her family completely under her spell. Her retirement was full of swimming, balls, paddling pools, walks, treats, endless kisses, cuddles, tummy rubs, shared beds, stolen sofas, and of course… dinner, because she was a Labrador after all.

Dyna was cheeky, gentle, full of character, and loved by everyone who met her. A true war hero, she even took centre stage at her local Remembrance service, sitting proudly for all those gathered — no doubt wondering which one of them had brought treats for such an important girl.

She gave her family a thousand times more happiness than they could ever have imagined. She made them laugh every single day, and when the time came, she left surrounded by love, sunshine, birdsong, and the arms of the people who adored her.

Sleep tight, beautiful Dyna.

HUNT IT UP, sweetheart.

Until the reorg. 🥀🐾🌈💔

In the remote Australian outback, Ellen McPherson proved that the front lines of the war could reach even the most isolated homesteads. When a Japanese Zero began a low-altitude strafing run across her property, McPherson didn't take cover. Instead, she grabbed her husband’s .303 Enfield rifle, stepped onto her porch, and took aim. Her shot was true, striking the pilot and causing the aircraft to veer and crash into the bush. With the threat neutralized, she simply leaned the rifle against the porch railing, went back inside, and finished hanging the day’s washing. She remains the only woman to shoot down an enemy aircraft on Australian soil.
