🏁 HANDS-ON LEARNING HITS THE TRACK!

What an incredible race day for the Ripley Valley Raptor Racers!

Competing in only their third year, our Go Kart in Schools team took part in a full day of testing, time trials and racing against experienced teams that have been involved in the competition for more than a decade.

However, this program is about far more than what happens on race day. Students work directly on the kart throughout its development - assembling components, completing maintenance, diagnosing mechanical issues and making repairs. It gives them the opportunity to turn classroom learning into real-world skills across Engineering, Mechanics and Technology.

That learning continued at the track. When minor mechanical issues arose, the students worked together to identify the problems, complete the necessary repairs and get the kart racing again in no time.

Their teamwork, problem-solving, resilience and ability to perform under pressure were outstanding. We couldn’t be prouder of the way they represented Ripley Valley State Secondary College! 👏

🔧 Could your business help drive their learning forward?

Building on the incredible support our sponsors have already provided, the Raptor Racers are seeking additional sponsors who share our vision of creating meaningful, hands-on opportunities for students in Engineering, Mechanics, Technology and Racing.

Sponsorship would help the team access dedicated tools, upgraded kart components, branded helmets and professional race gear, giving students even greater opportunities to learn, build and compete.

If you or your business would like to support the program, contact Mr Clarke at [email protected] to explore sponsorship opportunities.

Together, let’s help our Raptor Racers build their skills and reach new heights! 🏎️

We’re incredibly proud of Hayley Dietz, who recently represented the federal electorate of Blair at the National Youth Parliament in Canberra.

Across the week, Hayley spent time at Parliament House debating mock legislation, including the Intergenerational Fairness Commission Bill 2026 and Artificial Intelligence Transparency Bill 2026, while developing her knowledge of civic leadership, policy and the parliamentary process.

She also had the opportunity to meet Speaker of the House Milton Dick MP , our local member Shayne Neumann MP , Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and the Governor General, while speaking about issues important to her, including Australia’s healthcare system.

Reflecting on the experience, Hayley said:

“National Youth Parliament was an incredible experience to advance my civic education, representing my federal electorate Blair across the week I spent in Canberra. Surrounding myself with like-minded people was one of the best opportunities I was able to engage in, and I am hoping to use these transferable skills in future leadership and civic education opportunities.”

And the journey isn’t over yet, Hayley has now been invited to return to Canberra this November, with all expenses covered, to continue the work she started during National Youth Parliament.

Congratulations, Hayley! An outstanding achievement and a fantastic example of student voice and leadership in action. 💙

🔥 FABRICATION & WELDING SKILLS IN ACTION

Mr Philips’ Year 11 Engineering Skills students have been putting their fabrication and welding skills to the test by creating their own fire pits.

Throughout the unit, students are learning to safely use a range of tools, machinery and equipment while working from drawings and technical information to meet expected quality standards.

From selecting the correct type and grade of metal to considering measurements, tolerances, finishes and joints, students are building the practical skills and attention to detail used in real-world engineering and fabrication.

It’s (almost) that time of year where we find out what the 2027 Ripley Valley School Musical will be!

After the success of our first school musical last year, Legally Blonde, we will be having our second ever school musical in 2027. Stay tuned over the next few weeks for some clues on what it could be!

🔧 ENGINEERING SKILLS IN ACTION

Our Year 12 Engineering Skills students have been hard at work on their Vice Jaw assessment, putting their machining skills into practice in the workshop.

Students have been using the milling machine to complete a range of processes, including end milling, milling a rebate using a neutral rake face bit, and creating V-grooves.

It’s a great opportunity for students to build their precision, confidence and practical engineering skills through hands-on learning.

🏐 STAFF TAKE THE WIN!

After the last Staff vs Students match left some unfinished business on the court, the staff returned hungry, determined and ready to make a statement—and they delivered an absolute clinic!

🏆 STAFF 9 – STUDENTS 2

The students brought plenty of youth, energy and determination, but the staff brought the skill and experience to claim another convincing victory.

A huge thank you to our setup crew, game officials and awesome spectators!

The question remains… can anyone stop the staff? 👀
