Ripley Valley Rural Fire Brigade

Ripley Valley Rural Fire Brigade Proudly serving the community Ripley Valley Rural Fire Brigade consists entirely of volunteers who donate their time and skills to serve the community.

The Brigade is part of the Ipswich Group and is an Interface Zone (IZONE) Brigade, a special class of brigade meaning that it services the area where rural and urban firefighting needs meet. As a result, the Brigade works very closely with the Fire and Rescue (urban) stations of the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES) in the Ipswich area, enabling a free exchange of ideas, skills and supp

ort roles. The Brigade's primary area of responsiblity extends from Springfield to Amberley where we attend wildfire calls as well as assisting the broader QFES team with other hazard responses following natural disasters including flood relief and storm damage assistance. We provide crews locally, intra and interstate wherever the need arises.

Today, our brigade responded to a vegetation fire in Swanbank, working alongside our friends from Mount Forbes Rural Fire Brigade and Pine Mountain and Districts Rural Fire Brigade

Access to the fireground proved challenging for our appliances, requiring crews to operate on hand tools and extended hose lays to reach and contain the fire.

Thanks to the hard work and coordination of all crews on scene, the fire has now been successfully contained and extinguished.

A big thank you to all personnel involved for their efforts in tough conditions 👏

🚒 As always, if you see smoke or fire that concerns you, don’t hesitate to call 000.

Good Morning Ripley Valley,

Our brigade recently attended a fire at Washpool, working alongside brigades from Kalbar, Warrill View, and Roadvale.

This is what we do best supporting our neighbouring brigades and working together as a team to protect our community and surrounding areas.

A great effort by all crews involved.

As conditions continue to dry out, this is a reminder for landowners conducting burns to ensure permits are in place and to please liaise with your local Fire Warden prior to lighting.

📞 Please remember always call Triple Zero (000) to report fires, not brigade landlines. This ensures the appropriate resources are dispatched as quickly as possible.

🍉 A big thank you to one of the landowners for the champagne melons. They were very refreshing and well appreciated.

🚨In an emergency, always call Triple Zero (000)🚨

When a fire or life-threatening emergency happens, every second counts. The fastest way to get help is by calling Triple Zero immediately – not by contacting your local brigade or station directly.

Your call will go directly to a trained professional who can quickly dispatch the nearest available crews.

For non-life-threatening emergency assistance during severe weather events, such as help with a damaged roof or storm damage, call SES on 132 500.

🚨🛑 RIPLEY VALLEY COMMUNITY – IMPORTANT SAFETY MESSAGE 🛑🚨

⚠️ We are continuing to see vehicles using our station driveway as a U-turn point — including driving in, turning around, reversing back onto Ripley Road, stopping traffic, and driving over station grounds and grassed areas.

❌ This behaviour is dangerous and must stop.

Vehicles travel at speed along Ripley Road, pedestrians use the surrounding footpaths, and emergency vehicles may enter or exit the station at any time. Visibility can be limited, and unexpected vehicle movements significantly increase risk.

One unsafe move here could result in a serious crash — putting YOUR life, OUR volunteers’ lives, other road users, and pedestrians at risk.

✅ There is a roundabout towards Centenary approximately 100 metres up the road.
Use it. That extra minute keeps everyone safe.

💛 This is about safety. Protect yourself, our brigade, and the community — every time. 💛

Leaving Early Is the Safest Choice

Many people assume they’ll have plenty of time to decide whether to stay or go if a fire starts. But fires move fast — sometimes faster than you can pack a bag or load the car. Smoke, stress and poor visibility don’t make good decision-making partners.

Having a plan before fire season means you’re not scrambling when it counts. Know what you’ll take, where you’ll go, and when you’ll leave. Pets, medications, important documents and sentimental items all take time to organise — and that’s time a fire doesn’t always give.

We don’t say it to scare people — we say it because we’ve seen firsthand how quickly conditions can change. Prepared communities are safer communities.

❓ DID YOU KNOW? ❓

The Fire Danger Rating you see on signs or in weather updates isn’t just a number — it’s a prediction of how a fire would behave if one started today. It takes into account temperature, wind, humidity, and vegetation dryness.

When the rating reaches High or above, fires can spread faster and be harder to control. That’s when it’s important to avoid risky activities like welding, slashing, or burning off.

You can check the daily Fire Danger Rating for our area on the QFD website or through the Bureau of Meteorology. A few seconds spent checking could prevent a fire — or help you make the right call when conditions change quickly.

❓DID YOU KNOW? ❓

When Queensland Fire Department issues a “Stay Informed” message, it doesn’t mean you’re in immediate danger — but it does mean conditions could change quickly.

It’s your cue to start paying close attention: check the QFD website, or official social media updates for your area. Have your Bushfire Survival Plan ready and keep your phone charged in case an alert changes to “Prepare to Leave” or “Leave Now.”

Being informed early gives you more time to make smart, calm decisions — and that’s exactly how lives are saved during fast-moving incidents.

🚒🍔 It’s McHappy Day! 🍔🚒

Today our Ripley Valley Rural Fire Brigade crew has rolled into McDonald’s Ripley (off the Cunningham Hwy) — trucks, smiles, and probably a suspicious number of Big Macs.

Here’s the plan:

👉 Grab a Big Mac!
👉 Donate if you can
👉 Come say hi
👉 Pretend you’re not excited to see the fire trucks up close (we know you are)

We’re here supporting McDonalds raise funds for Ronald McDonald House Charities, who help families stay together while their kids receive medical care — a pretty amazing reason to eat fries for breakfast, lunch AND dinner. 💛

We’ve also brought along some bushfire readiness goodies — because being prepared is cool… 🔥

So swing by, grab a bite, have a chat, support a great cause, and maybe learn a thing or two along the way.

See you soon — we’ll be the ones trying not to get sauce on our uniforms. 😅❤️🚒

❓DID YOU KNOW? ❓

When our members respond to a call, it’s not just them making a sacrifice — it’s their families too. Partners, kids, and loved ones all play a huge role behind the scenes.

They hold down the fort during late-night callouts, miss family dinners, and still greet us with a smile when we drag home smelling like smoke. Their support keeps the brigade running just as much as our trucks do.

So here’s a quiet thank you to all the families and loved ones who back our volunteers. You’re part of the brigade too. 💛

🇨🇦 Ripley Valley goes international! 🇨🇦

While on holidays in Canada, one of our members , Syd, recently stopped in to visit the team at Medicine Hat Fire and Emergency Services

It’s always great to connect with firefighters from across the world, share a few stories, and see how others do things on the other side of the globe.

A big thank you to the crew at Medicine Hat Fire & Emergency Services for making him feel so welcome — the firefighting community truly knows no borders! 👨‍🚒🔥
