Hydrant Hide and Seek — We’d Rather Not Play..

Our crews are out around Jindabyne checking fire hydrants over the next few weeks when the weather allows, and we’ve got one request: please don’t make us dig, hack through shrubbery, or move your wheelie bin collection to find them in an emergency! 😅

If there’s a hydrant near your place, give it a quick check — grass trimmed, nothing stacked in front of it, no surprise garden gnome guarding the entrance. Basically, if you can’t spot it easily, neither can we.

We’re fast, but we’re not “excavate a hydrant in 30 seconds” fast. Help us help you! 🙏

🚒 JINDABYNE OPEN DAY – WHAT A TURNOUT! 🚒

Thank you Jindabyne for making our long-awaited Open Day a huge success! After being postponed for renovations, it was worth the wait — a whole lot of visitors came through our newly renovated station, possibly our biggest turnout ever! ☀️

Highlights included fire truck inspections, drone demos, hose handling, a sausage sizzle, and a visit from Burney Sinders (a hit with everyone… except some unconvinced toddlers 😅).

Our crew also had great chats about home fire safety — smoke alarms, escape plans, and lithium-ion battery safety. Remember: never bin your battery! 🔋 Find safe drop-off points via B-cycle: https://bcycle.com.au/

Winter has finally decided to turn it on (or down)🥶

After a frosty start to this morning and a couple of calls for our crews today, one being to help Fire and Rescue NSW Station 263 Cooma with a house fire, it’s a good reminder to check your fire safety!

🔥 1 meter from the Heater! Keep anything that can burn at least one metre from heaters and fireplaces.
🔥 Test your smoke alarms!
🔥 Never use BBQs or outdoor heaters indoors.
🔥 Take extra care with electric heaters and blankets.
🔥 Dispose of fireplace ash properly - leave it soaking for a few days in a metal bucket.

A few simple steps can help keep everyone safe this winter.

3 Stations. 1 Mission: Lock down the leak, strip the suit, and neutralize the threat!

Last week, a couple of our local Intermediate HAZMAT specialists made the trip to Fire and Rescue NSW Station 230 Bombala along with Fire and Rescue NSW Station 286 Eden and helped run a joint HAZMAT training drill. We suited up in our finest, fully encapsulated suits (PPC) and breathing apparatus to run through some serious hazmat training.

We sharpened our skills on:
👽 Mastering the art of moving in bulky, oversized protective gear.
🧪 Rapid chemical identification (without actually making a mess).
🚿 Perfecting the ultimate decontamination through the decon showers.
🚒 Learning what each stations specialised gear includes for various incidents.

Running through the decon line in heavy gear is no joke—it's a hot, sweaty workout that requires precision, patience, and absolute teamwork.

Training across our regional stations ensures that if a real hazardous situation happens, we are ready to respond seamlessly as one big team 🤝

No, seriously.

That little device sitting quietly on your ceiling has one job—and it's a very important one.

As the weather finally cools down around Jindabyne and heaters, fireplaces and electric blankets start working overtime, yesterday was the perfect time to test your bleeping smoke alarm.

It takes less than two minutes:

✅ Press the test button
✅ Replace batteries if needed
✅ Clear away dust and cobwebs
✅ Check it's less than 10 years old - if it is, replace it!

A working smoke alarm can provide the early warning needed to escape a house fire safely. It's one of the simplest things you can do to help protect your family and your home.

Lest we forget. 🌹

Yesterday, the crew from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 338 Jindabyne was honored to march alongside our brothers and sisters from NSW Ambulance, NSW SES - Snowy River Unit, Marine Rescue Alpine Lakes and Monaro Police District for the ANZAC Day parade.

It’s a privilege to stand together—not just as first responders, but as a community—to pay our respects to the brave men and women who have served and sacrificed for our country.

Seeing the incredible turnout from the Snowy Mountains community makes us proud to serve this region. Whether on the front lines abroad or here at home, the ANZAC spirit of mateship and courage lives on.

We will remember them.
