It's great being in the company of like-minded people, through volunteering with the Brigade you can make a real difference in the community.
Image below: Christmas Day 2013, patrolling in the days following the Julimar fire my first opportunity to briefly return home for lunch. At the end of the day, we were warmly greeted at the station by a community member who had baked a Christmas cake that very day, in appreciation of the Brigadeβs efforts over the preceding days.

My involvement began when my partner joined our local Brigade after we moved to Julimar. A couple of years later, the Brigade needed a Secretary, and I stepped into the role, drawing on my existing skills. From there, I completed Bushfire Awareness training, initially for personal knowledge, given we live in a fireβprone area. Before long, I was asked to help fill a gap on the rosterβand soon found myself attending my first fire in the middle of the night. Itβs fair to say things progressed quickly from there!
