Kalamunda Toy Library's Sensory Trolley

All visitors to the toy library can use tools and toys from the sensory trolley – yes, even adults!

The trolley has:
- ear muffs / ear defenders
- visual timers
- sensory toys
- first/then visual schedules (coming soon)

Minimum age range safety guidelines can be found on our large print ‘menus’ and we remind visitors that children should always be supervised in the toy library.

We want our space to be comfortable and enjoyable for everyone, so we’d really appreciate your feedback! Let us know what does or doesn’t work for your family and feel free to suggest new items that could support you. You can comment here or email [email protected].

This project is funded by Toy Libraries Australia's Disability Access, Inclusion, and Support (DAIS) Program and the Australian Government Department of Social Services.

Thanks also to occupational therapists from Western Kids Health for their insights on sensory and environmental supports!

Behind the Scenes - Disability access, inclusion and support (DAIS) program

Check out the photos of Phase 1 of our toy audit that took place late last year. The incredible team from Western Kids Health came out and assessed every toy in our Roleplay toy category. Toys were assessed against specific criteria to ensure that children and adults with disabilities or additional needs can use our toys for their intended play purpose, with a degree of independence.

Kalamunda Toy Library will be implementing new toy labels with clear symbols to allow our members to easily identify toys that meet their accessibility requirements.

We would also like to acknowledge the fantastic work completed by one of our community volunteers who has employed their amazing ability to test EVERY piece for 'playability' and has allowed us to upgrade many toys for a better play experience.

Keep an eye out for updates about Phase 2 coming soon!
