Our aim is to provide and promote equitable opportunity for meeting the informational needs of the people of the City of Kalamunda in a friendly and helpful environment. OUR STORY
The City of Kalamunda Library Service has provided more than 62 years of continuous library service. It has been a vital part of the community since it began in 1958, and its history illustrates how it has responded to t

he needs of local people. On 3 October 1958 the district's first public library opened in a small transportable building at Recreation Reserve (now Kostera Oval). This consisted of two timber and fibro huts which were purchased from Allawah Grove a former migrant hostel in Guildford, to be used as temporary premises for a library.

• 1963 - New Public Library at Kalamunda opened on Railway Road.
• 1977 - ‘Friends of the Library’ and housebound delivery service established.
• 1978 - Mobile Library service established.
• 1980 - Forrestfield Library officially opened.
• 1982 - Lesmurdie Community Library opened, first joint-use library to be built in WA.
• 1984 - Local History Collection established.
• 1987 - Major extensions to the Kalamunda Library.
• 1988 - High Wycombe Library officially opened.
• 1988 - Stained glass window completed and handed over to the Shire of Kalamunda.
• 1991 - Automation arrived and the card catalogue departed.
• 1997 - High Wycombe Library extended.
• 2009 - Catalogue went online.
• 2015 - page launched.
• 2017 - Kalamunda Library refurbished with Self-Check technology.
• 2018 - Celebrated the 60th Anniversary of Library Services.
• 2020 – Implementation of New Library Management System & Online Catalogue
• 2021 - Here we are today! We now have a fabulous eLibrary too and continue to host many and varied events & programmes catering for all community members.
• 2021 - Coming Soon – ‘Library Services Mobile App’

❄️Brrr… it’s been a very cold week! ❄️
Warm up at the library tomorrow with a fun, hands on STEM craft adventure. We will be testing our engineering skills to make:
👩‍🔬Popstick catapults: design and build your own launching machine
⛄Snowball launcher: create a fun device to toss “snowballs” (soft, safe ones!)

Test your creations and see how far you can launch. So rug up, come inside, and turn this chilly week into a fun STEM adventure!

Discover & Create runs every Saturday during school term 10am - 11am. Ages 4 and up, parental supervision required.

One of our sharp-eyed patrons spotted our chalkboard message — 'It's World Crocodile Day - Snap up a book!' — and took it to the next level with an awesome croc drawing on our interactive whiteboard! 👏🎨

🌸 Pregnancy Care Package Donations – Supporting Local Mums & Newborns 🤍

The Senior Childcare students at Lesmurdie Senior High School have launched a special project to support members of our community in need through charitable service.
This term, students are focusing on helping mums-to-be by creating care packages filled with essential and gently pre-loved items to support both mum and bub as they begin their journey together. As the saying goes, “Every great journey begins with a single step.”
We are now seeking donations of baby essentials to help bring these care packages to life. Over the next 4 weeks, donations can be dropped off at Lesmurdie Community Library, where they will be sorted and thoughtfully prepared into packages for families in need. All packages will be distributed to Pregnancy Assistance on Friday, 3 July.

🧸 Items we are collecting:
Disposable nappies (unopened packs)
Baby wipes (unopened packs)
Bibs (new or gently used)
Baby bottles (new)
Dummies (new)
Swaddles (new or gently used)
Baby toys and books (new or gently used)
Baby clothes (new or gently used)

💛 Every contribution counts — no matter how big or small, your donation can make a meaningful difference in the lives of a mother and her newborn in need.

World Ocean Day is celebrated on Monday 8th June, recognised annually to celebrate and raise awareness of the importance of our oceans and to promote sustainable practices and conservation efforts.

Join us this week at Discover & Create as we explore the ocean and focus on coral reefs, we will get crafty and make our own colourful reef.

As Reconciliation Week comes to a close in 2026, we are reminded that reconciliation is something we all take part in—by listening, learning, and creating spaces for understanding and connection within our community.

At Forrestfield Library, on Whadjuk Noongar boodja, we explored First Nations stories through our Display Pod and marked the arrival of the Noongar season of Makuru, with some wonderfully wild, windy craft at Discover & Create on Saturday morning.
